Fridges spark heated discussions
This is how the new items are received: Overall, the idea of a fridge has received positive feedback. Fridges that make food last longer were previously desired by players. Some backpacks already serve a cooling function.
However, players wish that the fridges could also be unlocked through a quest in the game. They see it as “a missed opportunity to implement a great quest line,” similar to the ProSnap Deluxe camera.
The fact that only this variant of the fridge is available for purchase is also rather disappointing. They wish that a functional item like the fridge should be available for free and that only cosmetics should be paid for.
In a larger thread on the topic with over 1,300 upvotes, the user MrTestiggles suggests that “rusty” versions should be free. Various variants with a visually nicer look, such as in a Nuka-Cola style or in Raider style, should then cost between 300 and 500 atoms.
Why are players so sensitive? The discussion is rooted in the fact that Fallout 76 has previously caused discontent with purchasable repair kits. Players felt betrayed because items that are not purely cosmetic can be purchased for real money.
Some players, who have earned atoms in-game and have never paid for them, say that they do not want to buy the fridges just to not support this practice. They fear the gradual introduction of loot boxes.
