Bethesda has introduced a new, small roadmap for Fallout 76. It includes some features that fans can look forward to in 2020. Among them are some new additions that have long been on the wishlist of many players.
This is in the roadmap: The roadmap was released in connection with the meat week unlocked by players. Bethesda has presented what Fallout 76 is set to receive in 2020 in the “Out of the Vault”:
- A test server (PTS)
- Skill loadouts
- Multi-factor authentication for increased security
- Legendary players
- Improved social menu
- Further improvements to public events
Two points stand out here particularly: the test server and skill loadouts. Both are things that players have been demanding even before the release of Fallout 76 in November 2018. The complete list in detail can be found on the official website.
Why is it coming only in 2020? Currently, Bethesda is focusing on the development of the highly anticipated “Wastelanders” update, which is set to release in 2019. Wastelanders fundamentally changes Appalachia by continuing the story and bringing NPCs and factions to offer players more depth.
Why are the upcoming features important?
Here’s why players want the test server: The test server is probably what most Fallout 76 players are particularly excited about. With such a server, patches can be tested by the community before the official release.

This leads to more feedback reaching the developers, and bugs can be resolved more effectively. In recent months, there were instances where patches were deployed that brought significant errors.
Players constantly called for test servers, because they wish to help make the game better. Accordingly, the excitement among fans at the news was immense, like on reddit.
So far, it is not known whether the test server will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.
What are skill loadouts? The second major topic is the skill loadouts. With these, players can choose sets of skills and perks that they can assemble and save. This allows them to switch between builds more quickly.
Currently, the perk system causes confusion and is cumbersome to use when trying to play a new build, switch weapons, or simply craft and gather well. Each area has its own useful perks that must be switched individually.
Players are currently using mods that take care of loadouts for them. However, mods are only tolerated, not outright allowed, which can lead to issues with their use. With the official feature, a significant fan wish will be fulfilled.
What do you think of the upcoming changes?
