In Fortnite grenades were put in the vault after players found a severe exploit using them. Although it only affected PC players, the item was removed across all platforms.
What is this exploit? After the Update 12.30 that was rolled out on March 31, players discovered not only new weapons and items but also a glitch that allowed them to throw an infinite number of grenades.
Player TurtleTavernTV demonstrated in a clip on Twitter how the exploit works:
To exploit this, players had to change their fire settings and select Mouse Wheel Up or Down. That’s why the glitch only worked for mouse/keyboard players.
As the platforms are mixed, PC players would have had a strong advantage over console players. That would be quite unfair considering that the aim assist, which was a help for controller players, has received a nerf.
The video shows how the player can throw a lot of grenades with just one throw after changing their settings.
Although you can only carry 6 grenades in the regular battle royale mode, that’s enough for a nasty attack. No opponent could evade such an assault, as it creates a huge explosion that destroys everything in the vicinity.
Epic reacted quickly to the exploit
How did Epic respond to this glitch? The grenades were put in the vault indefinitely. Although it only affects PC players, they removed the item on all platforms and game modes.
The C4 grenade has not been removed, but it received a strong nerf because players were getting unfair kills with it.
The removal was communicated on Twitter and even in the game:
While no reason is given here as to why the grenades are being removed, it was stated that there is a problem with them. However, it is highly likely that this exploit was the issue.
Another glitch that gives players a clear advantage, however, has not been fixed:
