An expert on the weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone discovered that there is a specific range value for nearly all automatic weapons in Battle Royale. He believes this could shake up the meta – once the DMR 14 is nerfed.
What happened? Amos Hodge, the Creative Director at the CoD developer studio Raven Software, tweeted information about a Warzone update a few weeks ago. He said: “The Warzone-specific range buff for the Kilo 141 has been reduced.” And although the tweet disappeared from Twitter, the impact of this statement will continue to occupy players of Call of Duty: Warzone for a while.
Until now, it was assumed that the values of Warzone weapons largely matched the values in the Multiplayer of Modern Warfare. Since there were no private matches in Warzone until recently, testing the values in Battle Royale was hardly possible, and content creators relied on the results from Multiplayer. However, this turned out to be incorrect, as has now been revealed.
The operator behind the CoD weapon site “truegamedata.com” took a look at all the weapons in a private Warzone lobby after the developer tweet and claims based on his findings: ‘This will change the meta.’ However, this will only happen after nerfing the currently overpowered single-shot rifles from Cold War – DMR 14 and Type 63.
Secret Warzone buff gives many guns hefty ranges
How strong is this buff? It is a substantial range buff. In the following image, you can see the range values of the Kilo (Orange), the M4A1 in multiplayer (Turquoise), and the Warzone M4A1 (Pink). The values are without attachments:
The M4 differs from its multiplayer variant in 2 values: It is slightly weaker at its first range (27 instead of 29 meters) and it only has 2 damage profiles. Until now, many players assumed that the M4 would reach its 3rd damage area at 50 meters (without attachments) and would take considerably longer to take enemies out of the game.
This removal of the last damage area is not an isolated case and has been found by “truegamedata” in several weapons. The Kilo 141 benefited greatly from this extra damage at long range due to its high stability, and post-reassessment of the automatic weapons in the ranking of the best weapons in Warzone is likely to lose several places. Because there are a few stable Warzone weapons that are still out there with great range.
17 weapons with significant differences from multiplayer
Which weapons benefit from this? The discarded damage areas were found in 3 weapon classes: assault rifles, LMGs, and submachine guns. Here are the assault rifles and LMGs that only have 2 instead of 3 damage areas.
- AN-94: 21.8 meters
- CR-56 AMAX: 24 meters
- FAL: 21 meters
- Grau 5.56: 31 meters
- M4A1: 27 meters
- RAM-7: 28 meters
- Bruen Mk9: 26 meters
- Holger 26: 48 meters
- M91: 29 meters
The same applies to the submachine guns. The smaller calibers usually have 4 damage areas in multiplayer. However, due to the Warzone buff, nearly all models from the “Modern Warfare” era have only 3 damage areas, which occur at the following values (values without attachments):
- Fennec: 18.2 meters
- ISO: 23 meters
- MP5: 17.5 meters
- Striker 45: 40 meters
- Uzi: 28.8 meters
- P90: 19.2 meters
Moreover, the diligent analysts from “truegamedata” found that the MP7 and the Bizon have different range values compared to the multiplayer. Although these two SMGs have 4 damage areas, the range is higher compared to the multiplayer values.
Reassessment of all-round weapons is coming – after the nerf of tactical rifles.
How could this affect things? For the SMGs, the new values are a nice fact, but due to the short combat distance, they are rarely important. The new info is really exciting for the stable all-round weapons of Warzone.
The Kilo 141 was long considered strong because it mixed its very good stability with competitive range. Now other stable weapons are significantly better in terms of range, and this could also affect weapon choice. “truegamedata” suggests that the Grau 5.56, the M4A1, the Bruen Mk9, the CR-56 AMAX, and the AN-94 now have a chance to dethrone the Kilo as the best all-round weapon.
Here is the range and time-to-kill comparison with the Kilo 141 in the graphic (without attachments):
However, since the strong DMR 14 currently reigns in Warzone, it may take some time before the automatic all-round weapons are re-sorted in Battle Royale. Several experts expect a timely nerf for the tactical rifles DMR 14 and Type 63 from Black Ops Cold War in Warzone.
Until that happens, you will likely have to rely on the single-shot rifles if you want to maximize damage and range.
