In Outriders has not only an extensive story campaign. With expeditions, there are also endgame activities in the cooperative shooter that are meant to keep you engaged for a long time. MeinMMO summarizes what to expect.
What is Outriders actually? This is a cooperative shooter from People Can Fly. You can hunt for loot with other players, play through the story, and choose from four different classes.
You can find more about this in our overview of Outriders: Release time, classes, system requirements – All information
How long does it take to reach the endgame? The main story of Outriders is supposed to last around 30-40 hours, and side missions extend the playtime a bit more. Once you finish the story, the expeditions are unlocked.
What are expeditions? These are individual missions. Each leads to a different, new area. Once you complete the story, you will find a new mission table in your camp. There, you can see the available expeditions.
This video from Legacy Gaming shows a short clip and explains the features of the expeditions:
Expeditions – The Endgame of Outriders
How do you start an expedition: Go to the newly available mission table in the camp and just start the desired expedition from there. Not all expeditions are unlocked at the start, however.
How many expeditions are there? There are supposed to be a total of 15 expeditions. The final expedition represents the final boss and is called “The Eye of the Storm”.
However, it seems that not all expeditions are available at the same time. How exactly this rotation system works is still unclear. There may be a timer that changes the expeditions at a specific time. Apparently, there are always 3 missions active.
How do you unlock expeditions? With the expeditions, there are so-called challenge levels. Unlike the 15 world levels available throughout the game, these are limited to expeditions only.
How do you increase these challenge levels? The fastest way to do this is to complete expeditions at the highest level available to you. The faster you do this, the more levels will be unlocked.
The higher your challenge level, the more expeditions you unlock, until you ultimately unlock the 15th expedition. Additionally, you need 40,000 “Drop Pods”. This is a new in-game currency that is unlocked through expeditions.
You can also spend the Drop Pods at the new merchant available in the camp with the expeditions.
New Currency for the Endgame
What are Drop Pods used for? This currency is needed in addition to the challenge levels to unlock certain expeditions. In the video, there is an expedition that requires challenge level 4 and also 40 Drop Pods to be unlocked.
Additionally, you can spend them at the new merchant Tiago in the camp.
What kind of merchant is that? He sits in your camp after the story and sells particularly valuable items. In the video, the merchant even has legendary loot on offer.
What is legendary loot? These weapons and armors are the most powerful equipment pieces in Outriders. You will need them to craft the strongest builds and succeed at higher challenge levels.
The faster, the more loot
This is how an expedition goes: You choose a mission on the map for which you fulfill the conditions. Once you are on your way, a timer starts. The video does not show many scenes from the expedition, but the team took about a quarter of an hour and received a three-star rating.
The higher the rating at the end of an expedition, the better the reward, and the closer you get to the next challenge level.
What are the rewards? Usually, it consists of a lot of loot, and in addition, there are the Drop Pods mentioned above.
You can watch how an expedition unfolds in this video:
Expeditions are meant to keep you busy for a long time, but what comes after the release?
How much playtime does the endgame encompass? According to the developers, expeditions are supposed to keep players engaged for at least another 40 hours, with the campaign making it over 70 hours. Whether they provide enough variety remains to be seen.
Will anything else be added? Currently, it is unclear how things will proceed after the release of Outriders. The developers have consciously decided against a live-service model, season passes, and microtransactions and aim to deliver a “finished” game.
However, it is certainly possible that additional content such as DLCs or classes will follow. It depends on how players evaluate Outriders and whether it becomes successful.
Have you already checked out Outsiders? Have you perhaps even reached the endgame? What do you think of the loot shooter? Feel free to write it in the comments.
Currently, there is also a survey running on MeinMMO, in which you can participate: Outriders is finally starting! Will you play the new cooperative shooter?
