The MMORPG expert and YouTuber TheLazyPeon played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, although he usually does not like games with a strong story focus. His conclusion emphasizes how great the role-playing game is.
Who is TheLazyPeon? With 685 videos and 758,000 subscribers, TheLazyPeon is one of the largest YouTubers in the MMORPG genre. For many years, he has been providing gameplay reports, genre analyses, and personal insights into his life in Thailand.
However, the “lazy worker” rarely talks about single-player role-playing games, partly because he doesn’t actually like games with a strong story focus. For instance, he set aside the remake of Elder Scrolls: Oblivion after a few hours – the pure gameplay experience just isn’t good enough in his opinion (via YouTube).
On the other hand, he found many gameplay aspects of Kingdom Come 2 so great that he even questioned the direction of his channel. For his latest video, the MMO expert has now taken a look at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which scores especially with its emotionally gripping story and strong presentation.
The release trailer for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sets the stage perfectly for the role-playing game:
“I want more games like this”
What is the conclusion after 60 hours? On YouTube, the MMO enthusiast explains that he has now mastered 100 percent of the content of Clair Obscur, despite the fact that it has been a long time since he enjoyed playing a game with a turn-based combat system (Final Fantasy X from 2001). Additionally, TheLazyPeon repeatedly emphasizes in his videos how unimportant he finds the story of a game.
Games with turn-based combat and/or a strong story focus? The player can ignore them without a second thought – at least that has been his approach in recent years. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 now forces him to rethink that.

“I was really interested in the story in this game” – and that from the prologue on, the YouTuber says in his video. Clair Obscur builds an exciting scenario around a hopeless expedition and manages to portray the characters so vividly through dialogues and presentation early on that you get completely drawn into the plot.
I can’t believe such a small team made a game that is this big. […] I damn well pray that they make another game in this genre.

And TheLazyPeon had a lot of fun with the turn-based combat too. The reason: When it’s the enemies’ turn, you don’t just passively watch what happens, but you still have to be active and parry attacks to launch counterattacks that are particularly effective: “This is the most engaging turn-based game I have ever played,” the YouTuber sums up.
Furthermore, the MMO player praises the music of the game, which he believes is “S-tier” and perfectly underscores moments, often bringing him to tears. The latter is also due to the fact that the game does not shy away from addressing very serious, dark themes, which can unfold their effect because the characters are so well-written and acted.
You can already tell: TheLazyPeon, the MMO dude who does not like stories and turn-based combat, can hardly stop raving about it.
Expedition 33 has the best cutscenes I have ever seen in a game. It has the best soundtrack. The best turn-based combat system. The best story. The best intro […]. Tons of content. Gorgeous graphics. Some of the best characters I have ever seen in an RPG. I want more games like this. […] My game of the year.

In fact, he has no criticisms of Clair Obscur in the slightly over 11-minute video.
How does his community react to the video? They celebrate the conclusion with over 395 comments and 2,363 thumbs up in less than a day.
