If you want to get the best out of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 from Verso, check out these two builds to deal with all enemies quickly.
Verso only joins the group at the beginning of Act 2 and shakes things up quite a bit. He has access to the same weapons as Gustave, but his playstyle differs significantly from him.
We reveal how to get the most out of Verso – both right after he joins the group and in the hardcore endgame of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With our two builds, you should be prepared at all times.

Verso in the Early Game
Verso joins the group late, so the term “Early Game” doesn’t quite fit here. We refer to the time of his joining the group, which is at the beginning of Act 2. The build shown here should serve you well until the Monolith.
Attributes
Since the best weapon for the build in the early game scales heavily with agility, you should invest most of your points into it. The rest should go into luck to further increase his critical hit chance.
The high agility helps Verso to act multiple times, quickly increasing his perfection rating.
Skills
- Quick Strike
- Light Holder
- Assault Zero
- Paradigm Shift
- Defiant Strike
- Perfect Recovery
Weapon: Gaulteram
Gaulteram is a good choice for starting with Verso. The weapon helps him rapidly increase his perfection rating while losing very little perfection. The level 4 bonus ensures that upon a hit, you only lose one point of perfection instead of a whole rank.
Lumina
The following pictos and lumina are just a recommendation. Verso can work well with other lumina, but these are wonderful for starting out.
- Sweet Kill: When you kill an enemy, you regenerate 50% of your maximum HP.
- First Strike: You always play first.
- Critical Burn: Your critical hit chance is increased by 25% against burning targets.
- Dead Energy II: When you kill an enemy, you gain +3 AP.
- Breaker: Your breaking damage is increased by 25%.
- Healing Parry: Parrying restores 3% of your maximum health points.
Combat Guide
Verso benefits from you leveling him up through the ranks as quickly as possible so he can reach S-rank and gain maximum damage bonus. So start with Quick Strike, which should instantly promote you to Rank B. Following that, Assault Zero should help you push up to Rank A, and using Light Holder will ultimately get you to S-rank.
You can vary here, depending on what you need at the moment. For maximum damage, use Defiant Strike, and when you’re running low on AP or HP, weave in Paradigm Shift or Perfect Recovery.
Verso in the Endgame – Endless Markings with Sustained Fire
In the endgame, there are significantly more lumina points and better weapons available. With this build, Verso becomes a real “power house” that can quickly turn even the toughest enemies into shish kebabs.
Attributes
Due to weapon scaling, you should invest 99 points each in agility and vitality. If you have points left, invest the rest in strength to squeeze out a bit more damage from Verso.
Skills
- Overload
- Follow Up
- Radiant Slash
Weapon: Simoso
Simoso is the weapon you get from one of the hardest bosses in the game – Simon. The weapon is hard to ignore, as it has an exceptionally good scaling and powerful passive bonuses.
Using abilities with Simoso adds additional light damage, applying 20% burning to enemies on a hit with light damage. Additionally, Verso cannot die if his perfection is at least “A”.
Lumina
The following pictos and Lumina are almost all necessary. Basically, you want to equip all lumina that increase damage and benefit from marking or can renew a mark.
- Painted Power: You can deal more than 9,999 damage.
- Cheater: You always play 2x in a row.
- Fueling Break: When you break a target, you double the burn stacks on the enemy.
- Stay Marked: 50% chance to trigger a new mark on a marked target when attacked.
- Marking Shots: Your shots have a 20% chance to mark the target.
- At Death’s Door: You deal 50% more damage as long as you have less than 10% health.
- Augmented Aim: Shots deal 50% more damage.
- Burning Shots: Shots have a 20% chance to cause burning on the target.
- Burning Mark: Causes burning on the target when you hit a marked target.
- Glass Canon: Deals 25% more damage but also takes 25% more damage.
- Roulette: You have a 50% chance to deal either 50% or 200% damage.
- Immaculate: You deal 30% more damage until you take a hit.
- Energising Burn: +1 AP when you cause burning. Once per turn.
- Energy Master: When you gain AP, you additionally gain +1 AP.
Combat Guide: How to Optimally Play the Marking Build
The battles are relatively simple. In Verso’s first turn, you use some shots until you drop to 6 AP. Then use the Overload ability to reduce Verso’s health to 1 and refill his AP for the next turn.
Thanks to Cheater, you play again immediately and can now unleash your massively amplified shots on the enemies. Once you reach S-rank with Verso and still have 2 AP left, you can use Follow Up to deal extremely high damage – depending on how many times you have shot in that turn.
Other Group Members
Additionally, you should use Maelle and have her use the Offensive Switch ability to apply more defenselessness to the target and further increase the damage taken by the target. This works best when Maelle gets to attack before Verso.
As the last member, you use Sciel with the ability Fate’s Fury. This increases the damage that Verso deals in his next turn by 100% – leading to absurd damage numbers. With Intervention, you can then force Verso directly into the next turn.
Verso benefits greatly when other group members support his attacks and buff him or debuff enemies. Other characters in Expedition 33 also have extremely strong synergies and can execute absurdly high combos – like Sciel when played with the right build.
You can vary here, depending on what you need at the moment. For maximum damage, use Defiant Strike, and when you’re running low on AP or HP, weave in Paradigm Shift or Perfect Recovery.
