There will soon be fresh competition in the market for sci-fi MMOs. “Project C” aims to grab a big piece of the pie. Influences include Bungie and Pixar. The staff have experience from games like Half-Life 2 and Thief. And they also have the MMO wonder technology SpatialOS on board.
Those who complain that there is little movement in the MMO market can now breathe a sigh of relief. The developers at Darewise have announced a new sci-fi MMO under the name “Project C”.
Darewise consists of a lot of “old hands” in the genre. Darewise was founded by designer Randy Smith, who worked on the Thief series. Victor Antonov from the former Half-Life 2 team is also on board.
As inspiration, companies like Bungie and Pixar are mentioned, who have “stood for quality since day one”.
Little information, big ideas
So far, there is only little information about the mysterious Project C. It will be the debut project of Darewise and is supposed to represent “the first step of an ambitious journey” to offer truly innovative experiences in the realm of “AAA titles” – at least the plans sound grandiose. There is still no information about the story or gameplay, which likely indicates that the whole thing is still in a early planning phase.
What is known is that there will be a huge, interconnected world in which players can permanently influence their actions, which also includes an extensive ecosystem.
However, it is known that development will take place with SpatialOS – we have reported on this technology several times before. It should enable entirely new dimensions for MMOs, connecting multiple servers and worlds. This should allow for sizes that were previously impossible with conventional technologies.
Are you looking forward to Project C? Or do you think the sci-fi train has left the station?
