Evolve will start making money again and is now introducing a cash currency. We reveal what is changing.
It has been almost 2 months since Evolve launched into the “Open Beta” of “Stage 2”. Since Evolve has been available as a Free2Play title on PC, fans were a bit surprised because there was no way to leave real money in the game. That is changing now.
America tests the real money currency
At least in the American version of the game, you can now buy “Gold Keys” for real money to purchase some items in the game. This includes perks, characters, color variants, skins – basically everything you can also earn in the game (with “Silver Keys”).
In the official announcement, it says:
“We want to emphasize that there will be no pay-to-win bullshit in Evolve. In short: If you don’t have the time (or patience) to earn Silver Keys, but want more of the cool stuff, then the Gold Keys are for you.”
Regarding the future of Evolve, it is stated:
“We want to continue developing content for Evolve, and we want to bring “Stage 2” to consoles. But for that, we need to prove that the game can sustain itself. The “Gold Keys” program is our way of doing that. If you like the game, want to see more content, and want to see the game on consoles, then tell your friends about Stage 2. This game will live or die based on the content and the community – and we believe both are pretty great.”
TurtleRock wants to run the “Gold Keys” program as a test initially in America and then expand to other countries once they are sure there are no more errors with the Gold Keys.
Cortyn says: I must admit that Evolve has fallen a bit out of focus for me because so many other things are going on right now. However, the introduction of a real money currency is only logical, as the game must generate some revenue. It was already surprising that players had two months to accumulate “Silver Keys” without any payment option.
My concern is that everyone who wants something specific will already possess it, and the developers will see little money. But for now, we also have to wait for the second “real” launch. Because currently, the player numbers of Evolve are continuing to drop every day…
