“Evil Dead: The Game” (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch) impressed at the Summer Game Festival. We show you what the game is about and why it reminds many of Dead by Daylight.
At the Summer Game Fest, a new game was highlighted that horror and splatter fans will likely enjoy. In “Evil Dead: The Game,” you take on the role of Ash Williams and extinguish the life lights of the undead and demons – or you are the Kandarian Demon and attempt to steal the souls of the humans. Of course, with bloody violence, as bloodthirsty demons do.
The action game can be played in both co-op and PvP modes. In PvP mode, one player takes on the role of the demon.
Kill demons and undead with 25 different weapons
What do the survivors do? The survivors aim to achieve what Ash pursued in the series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” and the films: to banish the undead and their associated demons back to the part of hell from which they crawled.
To do this, pages of the Necronomicon and artifacts must be found to ultimately cast a spell that seals the Kandarian Demon.
The undead don’t like that very much, so they will get in the way – and must be blown away with more than 25 different weapons. Among them are well-known weapons such as Ash’s chainsaw, Lord Arthur’s broadsword, Kelly’s rifle, or just the good old chainsaw.
It’s not gentle either. Blood sprays in fountains from the undead, who can be dismembered in true “Evil Dead” style.
What does the Kandarian Demon do? In the form of the Kandarian Demon, you have several options on how to hinder the survivors and ultimately steal their souls. Many details are still not known, but it seems clear that you have a significantly better overview of the map than the survivors. It is confirmed that the demon can:
- Possess undead directly and control them. The undead are then stronger and have additional abilities.
- Manipulate the environment to harm the survivors. You “haunt” the map, cause things to collapse, or set fires.
What the demon has in its arsenal is not yet known – first gameplay will surely reveal more soon.
Is this like Dead by Daylight? The comparison to Dead by Daylight is close at first glance, but Evil Dead seems to have more parallels to Left4Dead or Evolve. The survivors have weapons and can defend themselves to put an end to the demon’s harassment or simply let a few undead go down in atmospheric fountains of blood.
The focus is not on distracting the Kandarian Demon and leading it around by the nose, but to give it a hard time as well. There is a clear goal for both sides: to eliminate the other side.
But at least: Ash is also in Dead by Daylight.
When will the game be released? Evil Dead is set to be released sometime in 2021. Although there is no exact release date yet, since the year is already halfway through, it shouldn’t be long until we hear a concrete date.
On which platforms will the game be released? Evil Dead: The Game will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, the Nintendo Switch, and PC. All common platforms can dive into the carnage.
