We have the first info about the new WoW expansion “Shadowlands”. What is it about? Who lives in the Shadowlands? What will we do there?
During the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2019, many details about the next expansion of World of Warcraft were revealed. It goes to the “Shadowlands”, the realms of the dead and souls in Azeroth. After Sylvanas defeats Bolvar in the Icecrown in battle, she tears open the fabric of the world, creating a gateway to the Shadowlands.

What features are there? In the trailer, features were also discussed. These include:
- Sylvanas is a central part of the expansion, her plan will be revealed.
- There are 5 new areas:
- Bastion, an area of shining fields
- Maldraxxus, a zone of rough battlefields
- Ardenwald, a place of eternal twilight
- Revendreth, an area full of impressive fortresses
- The Horrific Maw, where the most wicked of souls suffer
- Players can join one of 4 Covenants (factions in the Shadowlands). Each Covenant brings class-specific abilities and its own campaign.
- The Tower of the Damned will be a place with high replay value. There will always be new, randomized encounters.
- Pandaren and all allied races can become Death Knights under the leadership of Bolvar Fordragon.
- New character customization options for all races are expected.
What Covenants are there? The Covenants play an important role in Shadowlands. Players can join one of 4 Covenants, experience a specific campaign, and gain abilities. The options include:
- Kyrian (based in Bastion): Duty and honor are the focus, they guide and protect the souls transitioning from the realm of the living to the Shadowlands.
- Night Fae (live in Ardenwald): They ensure that the spirits of nature can complete their cycle and be reborn. Several forces are trying to prevent this.
- Venthyr (live in Revendreth): These beings live in a gothic realm and feast on the souls of particularly proud or vain individuals.
- Nekrolords (in Maldraxxus): The Nekrolords create a massive undead army, which serves as the first line of defense for the Shadowlands. Those seeking glory in battle will find their place here.
