Since the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of more content to ease the wait until the release date, or at least its announcement. However, a former developer of the studio has a completely different opinion on this.
What connects the developer with the GTA series? Obbe Vermeij, a former Technical Director who worked for Rockstar from 1995 to 2009, often talks about his time with the creators of the GTA series on X. In his latest post on X, he celebrated the 17th anniversary of the release of GTA 4, where he also discussed the decision-making process that led to the eventual delay of the title. The team noticed at that time that they could not meet the targeted date. He further speculates that the decision day for GTA 6 could be similar.
Vermeij adds the following to the topic at hand: “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t release any additional trailers.” (via X)

Why does the developer not want to see any more trailers for GTA 6? Vermeij states that the game simply does not need any more trailers or other promo material, as the hype around the game is already big enough. And in this way, the surprise effect can make the release an even bigger event (via X).
Another X user (JoeDannyMan) finds this idea great: “That would be insane. Just announce a release date and nothing else. People’s heads would explode from all the hype and speculation.”
The former developer seemingly aims for exactly that: “That would be a boss move.”
What do we know so far from the first trailer of the game? The 1:30 minute-long trailer showcases the new location where GTA 6 will take place: Vice City, which conveys Florida vibes through its city, beaches, and distinctive, sometimes quite wild residents. Along with nightclubs and luxurious living, swamps and alligators can also be seen, indicating a versatile gaming experience.
Furthermore, we also get to know the two main characters of the game, Lucia and Jason, between whom the trailer hints at a “Bonnie and Clyde”-like romance. The trailer remains vague enough to allow fans to speculate further, yet still offers enough for players to look forward to.
