Borderlands 3 is soon releasing a new DLC that fans are already celebrating. What comes next seems uncertain. Can the next roadmap be predicted?
What kind of DLC is this? Two weeks ago, Borderlands 3 presented a new roadmap. This includes the content for Spring 2020 that excites the fans. This is mainly due to the new story DLC. It’s called “Guns, Love & Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock” and brings some fan favorites back to your screens.
As the name suggests, you will encounter Wainwright and Hammerlock again in the new DLC. Additionally, the Vault Hunter Gaige plays an important role. You already know her from Borderlands 2, where she was playable as a Mechromancer.
Borderlands 3 has announced a total of 4 DLCs. Therefore, it is not surprising that the community has been speculating on platforms like Reddit since release. The main focus is on what content we can expect and when.
Borderlands 3 and its Roadmaps
This is what the first roadmap looked like: Last year, the roadmap for content in Autumn and Winter was published. The sequence was as follows: first an event, then takedown, and finally the story DLC at the end of the season.
Based on this roadmap, some speculated that an event would follow in January, a takedown expansion in February, and the story DLC in March. This seemed reasonable given that with 4 DLCs within a year, a 3-month rhythm makes sense. However, since the release of the new roadmap, it has been clear that this order will not happen.
This is what the new roadmap says: Instead, January brought no major content. February featured a Valentine’s event, and in March, a new story DLC will arrive. Followed by an event in April and Guardian Takedown in May.
A Colorful Future in Borderlands 3
Does the content of Borderlands 3 have a pattern? If you really want to see a pattern in the releases, there is another method. If you set the release of Borderlands 3 as the starting point, the autumn month of September would have brought a story DLC. In October, an event followed with Bloody Harvest. November brought Maliwan Takedown.
You can also find this sequence in the roadmap for Spring 2020. It would have started in the first month of winter with the story DLC related to Moxxy and Handsome Jack, followed by the event in February and then no takedown. Thus, the comparison is somewhat flawed.
When can we expect the DLCs? Since the idea of a pattern is not really convincing, you should rather set milestones. You can expect a DLC every 3 months. So besides December and March, also in June and September. That would conclude the year for Borderlands 3.
What events are ahead? Furthermore, it seems that the seasonal events are tied to actual holidays. So far, we have had missions themed around Halloween and Valentine’s Day. Suitable holidays for events could include Easter in April or the celebrations for the 4th of July, of course in July.
Ultimately, we will just have to wait and see which content is expected and when. And that is somehow a good thing. And who knows, maybe we will be supplied with content for a much longer time. And for everyone who is just starting with Borderlands 3 on Steam, it won’t get boring anytime soon.
