MeinMMO editor Caro initially stayed away from the shooter despite many praises about ARC Raiders. The interest was there, but she lacked the final push to give the game a chance. She has now found that push and rightfully deserves to be laughed at.
Since the release of ARC Raiders, I regularly come across things that successfully try to make the shooter appealing to me. Be it the design of the environments, the possibilities for PvPvE, or especially the funny clips from the community that show wild encounters and amusing moments from the game. Despite all this, I have managed so far not to succumb to yet another game in which I could invest too much of my free time.
So far, I have been able to stay strong and curb my interest. Even the loud and clear recommendations from the editorial staff were brushed off with “maybe someday”. Well, that “someday” has finally arrived.
With the “Shrouded Sky” update, the shooter, along with hurricanes and new enemies, also got a new, rather clumsy player named Caro, who finally succumbed to all the recommendations and dared to venture into the game. All that was missing was the final decisive shove. And I am still embarrassed about it.
An easy deck made me concede and install ARC Raiders. The Surgeon skin was just too cool.
Gameplay can be nice and all, but I couldn’t resist the skin
It’s a bit embarrassing to admit that a cosmetic got me convinced about ARC Raiders, but that’s just what happened. It’s not even a prestigious skin like those found in other games, but a free cosmetic that doesn’t require spending real money.
Still, I was completely taken by the aesthetics of the skin, especially with the hood, the mask, and the rest of the medical nonsense (you can tell my absolutely competent expertise).
Being a wild surgeon fighting flying alien robots just sounded enticing.
Despite lacking success in the game, I encountered a lot of fun
The only problem was – who would have thought? – that I actually have to play and complete tasks if I really want to complete the skin.
My first rounds were, without trying to sugarcoat it, a pure disaster. During my first encounter with a speaking player, I fell into shock. I had no idea where to go, and some lucky players saw me as easy prey, just without any real reward while looting.
Still, after 2 miserable rounds, I encountered another raider who simply offered me a flute concert and occasionally pulled out a weapon to take down flying ARCs together with me. When we finally managed to extract, I was laughing out loud and knew: The game has hooked me.
Until I really understand how to collect credits effectively not just theoretically but also in practice, it will probably require a bit more practice. However, I am ready to learn and look forward to more cool skins and flute concerts.
