Classic versions of MMORPGs are currently very popular. After WoW Classic, there is now a version for Everquest as well – but it’s being taken care of by fans.
What has been announced? The community of the MMORPG classic Everquest will launch a new private server in October. Under the name “Green Server” from Project 1999, you can experience the online role-playing game as it was at release.
All over again for the anniversary
Why is this server coming? Everquest is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Since WoW Classic has shown how successful such versions are, the fans of Everquest want to honor “their” MMORPG with a classic server as well. Additionally, the team behind Project 1999 is celebrating its ten-year anniversary in October. A similar project was started back then.
What exactly can players expect? The community of Project 1999 will reset Everquest 1 to its release state. You will experience the MMORPG just as it was at launch. However, it won’t stop there.
The fans will gradually implement all patches, updates, and expansions. The project is designed so that you can experience Everquest all over again.
In January 2020, “of Plane of Fear” will be released, in November 2020, “Ruins of Kunark” and so on. The launch of “Scars of Velious” is planned for July 2021.
Depending on the response, there may not just be one server.
Experience the past in real-time
What is special about it? The team behind Project 1999 wants to release the updates, patches, and addons in exactly the same rhythm as Sony Online Entertainment did back then with Everquest 1. So you will not just experience Everquest in its original state, but also follow its development in “real-time” once again.
Is this officially approved? Yes, the team made an agreement with Daybreak in 2015, which operates Everquest. As long as no profit is made with the private servers, the project can continue.
When does the server start? The so-called “Green Server” will open its doors in October. A specific date will still be announced.
What do the players think about it? The fans are excited and congratulate the team for this idea. Many can’t wait to experience Everquest 1 from the beginning once again. This should be an exciting “time travel”.
