Bungie has released its latest TWaB post, and although for many the air is out of Destiny 2, the developers of the loot shooter have opted for a change that might interest many fans.
What has Bungie announced? In the latest TWaB for Destiny 2, Bungie announced an innovation for the events. Primarily, the event passes are set to be addressed.
The feature that was hated by many is to be removed and replaced with a free alternative. Fans will then be able to earn items and rewards without having to spend a penny. We will now show you how the entire system will work.
Goodbye event passes, hello free items
What is supposed to change? The event passes are to be replaced by an event menu (source: bungie.net). The menu is intended to exist for each event and offer the following things:
- An interface where the merchants and activities of the event can be accessed immediately
- An overview of all daily and weekly tasks of the event
- Explanations regarding the event:
- How it works, what players can expect
- A list of all free rewards of the event
As an example, the upcoming PvP mode “Heavy Metal,” which is conducted as an event by Shaxx, will serve here. This is what the event menu will look like soon:
Players will then be able to earn two currencies:
- Event tokens
- Can be spent in the rewards shop for loot
- Daily and weekly quests are the sources
- Can be spent in the rewards shop for loot
- Re-roll chip
- Can re-roll your daily challenges to speed up your progress
- Re-roll chips can be earned on the rank path

Bungie emphasizes especially that the events will completely forgo a paid part and will provide fans who invest time with free items. This is a good sign, as there was a huge outcry in the community when the event passes were announced. Bungie seemed only interested in making money, rather than producing content to entertain its fans.
This is a welcome step in the right direction, and since “Heavy Metal” represents a new event, fans may look forward to one or two new events in the future – but there haven’t been any details on that yet.
When will the change take place? The “Heavy Metal” event is set to go live with the new event menu on May 9th. Therefore, fans do not have to wait long to experience the new change.
