In Diablo Immortal, many players had concerns that the cash shop might have too many items that provide advantages in the game, so-called “Pay2Win” items. Now that the game is out, however, there is another point of criticism: Blizzard is being particular about cosmetics. Because when someone buys an item in the shop, they buy it only for a single character – not account-wide. This is causing a stir.
This was actually what was expected as criticism of the cash shop:
- Before the launch of Diablo Immortal, there were mainly players’ concerns that the game would constantly push players to the cash shop to buy certain conveniences.
- Mobile games like Diablo Immortal are known for creating “artificial barriers” that lead to either interruptions in the gaming experience or very slow progress, unless players pay.
- Now that the game is out, people see this a bit more relaxed. The PC Gamer website states, “Diablo Immortal is not quite Pay2Win, but close” – Currently, another quirk of the shop is causing annoyance. Surprisingly, “cosmetic items,” which are usually often harmless, are causing trouble in Diablo Immortal.
Surprisingly, there is a lot of criticism regarding seemingly harmless “cosmetics” in Diablo Immortal
What is currently being criticized the most about the shop? On the gaming forum reddit, after the first day, there were already 3 threads with many upvotes discussing the same problem.
Items purchased in the shop are tied to the character and server with which the item is bought. This applies to cosmetic items, frames, battle pass rewards, or event goodies.
This means: If you later decide to switch servers or start a new character, the purchase was in vain. You cannot transfer the item you bought. It is worthless for the new character.
Our tier list shows you which classes are currently strong. You can see the classes here in the video:
- A player says: “This causes extreme rigidity among all people with twinks or those who cannot decide on a starter class. What total crap, especially for store items. May I draw the developers’ attention to Path of Exile, where all characters always have full access to all cosmetic rewards?”
- Another says: “What happens if I delete a character, do all cosmetics disappear too?”
- A third writes: “Welcome to the future. You will own nothing, and you will be happy.”
Players demand: More freedom with cosmetics
How do players think it should be? Many players believe: Items purchased in the shop should be tied to the account and usable by multiple characters.
The problem seems to occupy many people quite a bit. Especially players who are used to leaving their money in the cash shop.
- One user says: “I considered buying a nice cosmetic armor set. But since there is no account-wide unlock, I will not do it.”
- “It must be account-wide. I would gladly buy something. But as it is now, I won’t spend a dime on the game.”
- “The game is fun, but man, the money grab is so super aggressive. No wonder it has been banned in some European countries.”
- “I’ve spent about $1,000 over the years in Hearthstone, and if I enjoy Diablo Immortal, I would definitely support it. But I won’t spend money just to play it on one character on one server.”
One user, whom many agree with, is particularly disappointed. He states: This is a “whole new level of greed,” Blizzard needs to address this as soon as possible.
As a customer, one must set an example here.
The problem might also be so significant because many plan to switch classes later:
