A YouTuber has completed an insane challenge: He won a match in the strategy game Civilizations 6 without founding a single city. Even the YouTube account for Civilization is very impressed. We’ll show you the video and how he did it on MeinMMO.
In Civilization 6, it’s about staying one step ahead of your opponents: technology, army, culture – you have to find your niche and consistently put pressure on your opponents.
But what happens when you aren’t allowed to found cities at all? And on top of that, you are not allowed to build your own military units?
The YouTuber “boesthius” has now shown that such a tactic is indeed possible. In an entertaining video, he wins a round with his own rules and covers the map with chaos and destruction. This even caught the attention of the Civilizations account – they are very impressed.
Are you also up for a little challenge? Guess in our video which content creator is behind the voices:
No Cities in Civilizations 6 – “We love to see you suffer”
What kind of challenge was that? Basically, it was a “No City Challenge.” boesthius was not allowed to build any cities at all. Not even the first settler was allowed to establish a shelter. But the YouTuber set even more rules:
- Do not found cities
- Maximum 3 cities of opponents allowed
- Only civilians and melee siege units are allowed to be trained
- Pangaea map / small / marathon speed
- Zombie mode activated
- “Deity” difficulty
A normal round of Civ 6 at “Deity” already causes nightmares for some fans of the series – myself included. But without cities? No units? In the comments under the video, “torture” is mentioned quite often.
You can watch the English video here:
How did he do it? A lot of knowledge, good planning, and a bit of luck. boesthius played as the Chinese leader Qin Shi Huang (Unifier). This allowed him to take over enemy barbarians with melee units.
In the first moments of the video, the YouTuber gives a small insight into his previous attempts – many ended quickly.
In the winning match, it took almost the first 100 turns until he finally found a suitable barbarian camp that he could exploit. It quickly became apparent that zombies are also an excellent tool.
Due to the complete abandonment of infrastructure and the minimal upgrading of cities, things became rather tight – boesthius almost lost all his cities due to lack of loyalty.
But at a certain point, he was able to overwhelm his enemies and already secure victory in turn 278.
What do the reactions look like? As a pinned comment under the video, there is a post from the official Civilization account on YouTube. Here, there was high praise: “Okay, I won’t lie. That was extremely impressive.”
In the comments, there are quite a few users who celebrate the video and praise the content creator for his work.
- Fishpizza1212: “We love to see you suffer”
- Lucas Fischer: “That was really cool to watch. It also fit thematically with the whole zombie plague thing. Great video!”
- Fernando Bayer: “The crazy person did it!”
Time and again, YouTubers or Twitch streamers come up with completely insane challenges. Sometimes it seems no task is too outlandish: Twitch streamer kills a dragon in Elden Ring with her brain – “Pink future for gaming”
