The shooter Dust 514 did not really convince the players of the MMO EVE Online. With Project Nova, that is supposed to change.
At the EVE Fanfest 2016, CCP Games presented the upcoming online shooter. Instead of being out in huge areas and part of the events in EVE Online, Project Nova offers rather small battlefields and a somewhat limited connection to the space MMO. However, only a very early pre-alpha version was shown, which was only a few months old.
Release in multiple phases
The game is supposed to be released in multiple phases. Phase one will bring an enjoyable online shooter, in which players have many customization options. Phase two will introduce territorial warfare, where factions fight for territories on the planets of New Eden. In phase three, the factions in Project Nova will be linked with those from EVE Online, and eventually, both games are supposed to be intertwined, so that players can create an item in one game and transfer it to the other.
CCP Games wants each phase to be a fully functional game that plays really well and does not give the impression of an unfinished product.
A good shooter
Project Nova is primarily supposed to be a good shooter, that is the most important goal CCP Games is pursuing. It should simply be fun to jump into the battles and participate. However, it does not want to compete with other online shooters or MOBAs that are currently coming to the market. Project Nova is thus not intended to be a competitor to, for example, Blizzard’s Overwatch.
The events will take place simultaneously with those from EVE Online, which also explains the social link between the games. Vehicles are currently not planned, but they could find their way into the game later if the developers believe it makes sense.
A release date for Project Nova has not yet been set; CCP Games wants to take its time here.
