In the space MMORPG EVE Online, a PvP tournament is currently taking place. On the very first day, there was a triumphant victory based on the fact that so many hate the leader of the Goonswarm Federation, The Mittani. But everyone knows this, and everyone knows that everyone knows it, and somehow this decided the match.
This is how the tournament works differently in EVE: As the US site Kotaku reports, the annual EVE Alliance tournament is currently in progress. These are not the huge battles one usually knows, but structured PvP matches that are conducted in remote locations to prevent interference.
So it’s not a battle like usual in EVE with countless ships that anyone can join but rather matches that take place as in an arena.
The most hated man in EVE: The leader of the “Goonswarm Federation” is a player named “The Mittani.” He is probably the most hated man in the galaxy and that is what he wants to be. However, his own players love him.
The Mittani is known for spinning intrigues, greasing the wheels of propaganda, devising strategies, and elevating himself and his alliance.
He presents himself as a space tyrant. Typically, it is rare to catch him in EVE. Many think he doesn’t even play anymore and only directs affairs through other channels. But it was said he would participate in this tournament.
Famous people take care of their protection because everyone wants to shoot them down
Everyone wants the head of Mittani: Typically, everyone fires at Mittani when they see him. Because everyone wants to take advantage of one of the rare opportunities to take his scalp and then tell everyone: I took him down back then, here is his head. This is the case for many famous pilots in EVE: They become primary targets for opponents.
That’s why people like “The Mittani” usually only fly walking bricks through space: ships that are focused on maximum defense.
Taking out a commander like Mittani or the leader of an alliance is called a “headshot” in EVE.
They want to trick us, ignore The Mittani!
This is what the opponents thought: The opponents of LUMPY did not want to be idiots. They knew: They just bring “The Mittani” along so that we shoot at his ship like crazy, wasting ammunition and time, while the others take us out in the meantime.
So they decided to ignore The Mittani’s ship.
I love it when a plan comes together
But it was a bluff: At Goonswarm, they anticipated exactly that and equipped “The Mittani’s” ship with almost no armor and full offensive capabilities.
As The Mittani was ignored, he could rage as a glass cannon. When the opponents realized this and quickly took him out, it was already too late, and the match was decided.
Special gag: The man behind this strategy, Goonswarm Captain Asher Elias, also flew a ship with almost no defensive capabilities. He too relied on the fact that his supposedly heavily armored ship, in which he sits as a commander, would be ignored because he had thought further around the crucial corner than his opponents.
