In the space MMORPG EVE Online, a massive war has been raging since July. However, a ceasefire has been negotiated for Christmas.
What kind of war is this? The World War Bee 2 is a conflict between the two major alliances Legacy and The Imperium. They are fighting for territorial control.
The war has consumed over 800,000 euros in resources. However, this is merely a conversion, as the players of EVE Online have accumulated most of these resources over many years and did not purchase them with money. The 800,000 euros indicate the value of the resources being destroyed in the war.
The World War Bee 2 has even made it into the Guinness World Records due to a gigantic battle.
Christmas also brings peace in EVE Online
Why is there a ceasefire now? Following the ceasefire of World War I on December 24, 1914, which is known as the Christmas Truce in history, no fighting should take place in EVE Online during the holidays.
The leaders of the two major factions Legacy and The Imperium have negotiated a ceasefire.
The reason for this is actually quite simple: Battles in EVE Online can sometimes last many hours, and some participants find it difficult to devote this time during Christmas. However, since so much hinges on the battles in this war, the faction leaders have decided to let the conflict rest for a few days.
What does the ceasefire look like? The details are currently still being worked out. Gradually, the participants in the war are informing their players that there should be no fighting on December 24 and 25. To do this, it is necessary to schedule attack timers, which essentially happens one or two days prior to the battle. This must not happen now.
Furthermore, no player is forced to log into the game on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Will everyone adhere to this? It is quite possible that some players may ignore the ceasefire. In that case, the defenders are allowed to take countermeasures.
Since cheating and sneakiness play a significant role in EVE Online, it should also not be surprising if the ceasefire is broken before the deadline and the war continues earlier.
