In EVE Online , a plan worked and caused losses to hasty opponents. In just a few minutes, ships worth 17,000 USD went up in smoke.
The war stories of EVE Online fascinate even non-players. The US site Kotaku tells a typical story from the sci-fi MMORPG. It’s about a long-simmering neighborhood conflict that shows what happens when you use cannons against sparrows – then you’re eaten by an eagle.
The opponents always used their most expensive ships even in smaller conflicts…
The leader of “Pandemic Legion” is Killah Bee. He has been playing EVE since 2008. Some time ago, an alliance called “Circle of Two” settled near the home region of Pandemic Legion. The alliances are not hostile, but they eye each other with suspicion.
Killah Bee noticed that the people from “Circle of Two” always sent their most expensive and best ships to settle smaller skirmishes in their area. That gave him an idea…

When the large industrial ships of Circle of Two were collecting ore in an asteroid belt, they were attacked by a fleet of smaller ships. These belonged to the “Goonswarm Federation.” Actually, they are hostile to Pandemic, but the two alliances collaborated for this occasion.
The attacking ships from Goonswarm set up beacons. This allows friendly ships to warp in. They did so: 8 Dreadnoughts joined the attack on Circle of Two, which are siege ships.
When they attacked the miners from Circle of Two, they called for help. And indeed: Circle of Two sent its largest ships into the asteroid belt. Capital and Super-Capital ships from Circle of Two were now in battle with the Dreadnoughts. One by one, Titans and Super-Carriers from Circle of Two landed in the system.
They could no longer leave, as warp disruption fields had already been laid in the asteroid belt.
17,000 USD destroyed in a matter of minutes
Now the trap snapped shut. Pandemic Legion had secretly brought a fleet of 80 ships within range prior to the conflict. They now attacked and made short work of the fleet of Circle of Two.

As Kotaku reports, the alliance lost ships that cost so much ISK that one would have to spend 17,000 USD to pay for them. The attackers had only minimal losses. Overall, the story is said to have lasted only a few minutes. 700 player ships were involved in the battle.
A large conflict is unlikely to arise from the skirmish. Killah Bee simply notes the action as a success: “We had the chance to destroy ships, and we did that.”
