The PLEX system in EVE Online is undergoing a revision, which eliminates the risk that ships loaded with in-game currency can be destroyed.
PLEX allow players of the space MMO EVE Online to make in-game purchases or to pay subscription fees.
More PLEX for more flexibility
Now, the developer studio CCP Games is implementing changes to the system. On one hand, PLEX will be divided into smaller units. What used to be one PLEX will now consist of 500 PLEX. This aims to give players more flexibility in how they want to spend their money.
This does not mean that EVE players can buy 3 days of playtime for 50 PLEX. CCP currently has no plans to introduce such a system. It will remain “500 PLEX for 30 days” as it is now.
PLEX can be securely stored
The other change is the introduction of the PLEX Vault. In this “safe”, players can store their PLEX and have access to them at any time.
However, CCP Games is aware that this change will not please everyone, as many find it very appealing to attack ships loaded with PLEX belonging to other players and watch their money go up in smoke. Some players even enjoy the risk that they could lose their PLEX at any time.
Therefore, CCP Games will give players the choice to either store their PLEX in the Vault or continue transporting them in their ships. Lastly, the second virtual currency, Aurum, will be abolished and converted into PLEX, creating only one currency in the future. This could affect the value of PLEX. However, the developers will keep an eye on ensuring that the economy of EVE Online does not fall out of balance.
