A Polish player of EVE Online wanted to commit suicide – but the global community of the MMORPG sent help in time.
The Polish police authorities report in a press release, visibly astonished by what happened on the morning of November 5th. The Polish police were alerted by the Interpol office in Reykjavik and the Interpol office in Wiesbaden and deployed to save a young man’s life.
Chat messages and livestream alarm concerned players
Apparently, a 28-year-old Pole decided to take his life after facing severe setbacks in EVE Online. He announced this via chat messages in the game. In a livestream, he is also said to have threatened to kill himself. To this end, he allegedly ingested a large quantity of pills.
Concerned players then contacted the customer support of EVE Online, which is based in Reykjavik and apparently informed Interpol. Additionally, a woman from Germany is reported to have watched the livestream and informed the German authorities that a man was planning to commit suicide.
As a result, the authorities were alerted, Interpol intervened, and the warning reached the Polish police. They proceeded to the village where the 28-year-old lives.
There, the police entered the potential suicide victim’s parental home. The parents were unaware of how their son was doing. In his room, they discovered an empty pill bottle. They found the man outside the house. He stated that he wanted to commit suicide by overdosing on medication.
The police handed him over to the emergency medical staff just in time. His condition is no longer life-threatening. According to the information from the Polish police, he is now in the care of his family.

The Polish authorities commend that players in a virtual world do not turn a blind eye to the problems of the real world. Thanks to the reactions from the internet, the swift flow of information from Interpol, and the quick action of the police, a life was saved.
