Last Saturday, December 10th, the largest battle in the history of the space MMORPG EVE Online took place, in which the first Keepstar was officially destroyed.
The battle for the Keepstar of the player alliance Circle of Two was so immense that it had to be conducted in two stages. The first fight took place on December 4th, when Pandemic Legion and Northern Coalition battled against Circle of Two. Approximately 4,400 ships participated in this skirmish. Circle of Two was defeated, but the Keepstar, the Death Star-like citadel of the alliance, withstood the attack thanks to a powerful super weapon. Since there is a time limit in the game during which a Keepstar can be attacked, its destruction had to be postponed.
A New Record in EVE Online
The second part of the battle, which will go down in the history of the MMO as the “Battle at the M-O Keepstar”, took place on Saturday, December 10th.
As news spread that a Keepstar would be destroyed, between 5,300 and 5,700 players participated in this fight. This led to a time lag of about ten percent. The events were thus only proceeding at one-tenth of normal speed. Despite this significant lag, the Keepstar fell after an almost two-hour battle. Even the spectacular explosion of the citadel lasted several minutes.
The M-O Keepstar is the first to be officially destroyed. Although there had been previous destruction of such a citadel, it was reportedly destroyed through unscrupulous means and therefore does not count officially. Allegedly, the construction of the space fortress cost around 300 billion ISK. In real money, it is estimated that Circle of Two invested about 10,000 US dollars to build the citadel. The attackers subsequently celebrated loot worth around 2.7 billion ISK.
The Largest Battle of the Year
Although the Keepstar was already battered from the battle on December 4th and Circle of Two was fundamentally defeated, the citadel still held firmly. The defenders received help from the TEST Alliance. Hundreds of spacecraft were destroyed, and the shipwrecks were scattered kilometers across the entire solar system. The “Battle at the M-O Keepstar” was thus the most spectacular space battle that players of the MMORPG EVE Online could experience this year.
