EVE Online is one of the few online role-playing games that continues to succeed with a subscription model. However, with the upcoming November update, a special Free2Play feature is set to be introduced. We explain what it’s all about!
With the upcoming November update, EVE Online will receive the new so-called “Clone States”. Clones are, by the way, the player characters in the EVE universe. Where once all clones had the same opportunities, there are now “Alpha” and “Omega” clones. Omega clones are the typical subscribers of EVE Online, who still have full access rights and can fly all ships and learn all skills.
The Alpha clones, on the other hand, are basically test accounts. Because even now we can obtain a time-limited test access to EVE Online to check out the game. With the introduction of Alpha clones, this time limit will be lifted, and players can fly around in the EVE Online universe indefinitely. However, they are restricted to certain ships and skills, which they level slower than Omegas. If they want more, they will have to pay money or spend the special in-game currency PLEX .
The Free2Play feature in EVE Online is more like an unlimited demo than a typical Free2Play game, where subscribers enjoy only a few small advantages. Because anyone wanting to fully immerse themselves in the EVE universe will likely still need a subscription in the future, which can also be earned through hard work in the game via the real-money trading currency PLEX. But what do you think? Will EVE be enriched by Alpha clones, or is EVE doomed to descend into the galactic abyss due to a flood of Free2Play players? Let us know and write it in the comments!
