At the LoL Worlds 2020, G2 Esports defeated the Koreans from Gen G. 3-0 in the quarter-finals. All eyes were on the Dane Rasmus “Caps” Winther. In Match 2, he even fully leveled up “Mejai’s Soulstealer” – which is pretty much the highest punishment in League of Legends.
This was the match: It was the 4th and final quarter-final in the LoL Worlds 2020. Before the match, all other teams from the USA and Europe had been eliminated, only G2 Esports remained in the tournament. G2 Esports is by far the best that Europe has to offer:
- Midlaner Caps (20) was the star of Fnatic until 2018 and is considered the best midlaner outside of Asia. He was already called “Baby Faker” at the beginning of his career.
- Perkz (22) is actually a midlaner himself but switched to the bot lane to make room for Caps. He is incredibly ambitious and prioritizes everything to achieve becoming the world champion in LoL.
They faced the Koreans from Gen G. The team is built around the experienced ADC Ruler (21) and his support Life (23). They are considered a strong bot lane. Gen G. managed to eliminate SKT 1, the team around Faker, in the qualifiers.
Midlaner Caps in top form:
This is how the match went: The match was clearly decided by the better team fights of G2 Esports. Here, especially the midlaner Caps stood out. Caps played an outstanding series overall:
- In Match 1, he played Twisted Fate and had 4-1-11, while Perkz excelled on Jhin with 6-1-6.
- In Match 2, Caps then played Sylas and achieved 11-0-11. He even fully leveled up the item “Mejai’s Soulstealer.” This is pretty much the highest punishment for the opponent since the item only becomes that strong when you collect kills without dying.
- In Match 3, Caps then scored 6-3-13 on Sylas – also a strong performance.
The pure firepower of Caps was simply too much for Gen G. who repeatedly lost in team fights. Criticism arose after the match for Gen G.’s jungler “Clid” and midlaner “Bdd”. The otherwise strong bot lane played mostly solid but could not change the clear results.

G2 Esports appeared present and well-coordinated on all positions. Support Mikyx seemed like the weak point of the team in 2019 but is playing a strong World Championship in 2020. Jungler Jankos and the WoW superfan and top laner Wunder are performing excellently in their roles and fulfilling their responsibilities.
Even in a chaotic situation during a retreat, Caps turned it into a triumph:
This happened after the match:
A highlight came after the match when top laner Wunder briefly threatened to throw Caps into the pool. A show for the fans. G2 Esports is known for being the team that truly engages in all sorts of antics.
Interviews also fit this narrative. After the match, Wunder said: He actually didn’t even have to show up; Caps played a 1vs9 anyway (via twitter).
Bot laner Perkz had a lot to say, he exudes self-confidence:
According to him, G2 is a lot better as a unit this year; they now wait for each other and take consideration – not much, but at least a little. Last year it felt more like they had a lot of luck; in 2020 they feel stronger (via inven).
Caps looks particularly impressive in this clip from Korea:
What’s next: G2 Esports will face DAMWON Gaming in the semi-finals. They also won their quarter-final 3-0 convincingly. This will be a test for both teams to see how strong they really are. In the final, Chinese teams await, either Top Esports or Suning.
At G2 Esports, they seem to be looking forward to the match against DAMWON Gaming:
- Support Mikyx is looking forward to a showdown with Beryl, who is a damn strong supporter.
- Perkz is focusing on statements from midlaner Showmaker. He hoped that G2 would now beat Gen G. because he wants revenge on the Europeans. They had defeated DAMWON last year. Perkz says: “Showmaker wants to beat us so badly. Too bad for Korea that they won’t have a team in the finals this year.”

Caps is one of the most exciting players in Europe. When he plays well, fans also call him “Claps.” However, he has a evil twin brother: Craps. One can only hope he really took time off for the World Championship.

One of the best players in LoL completely fails – People love him even more.
