The shooter MMO Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade promises great things: free content for everyone every 3 months.
In the 41st millennium, there are… gifts.
Although Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is currently still in Early Access on Steam, the developers are already making big claims for the time after the launch. In doing so, they also (at least passively) step on the toes of some other games. Nathan Richardsson, the Senior Producer of the game, wrote in the latest “State of the Crusade” blog:
“As with all online games, we will continue to develop it for years after the launch. We find it a strange practice that in a game that you are supposed to play with friends, you can pay for a DLC that then excludes your friends. A few more DLCs like that and no one can play together anymore. That’s not how we do it. We do not want to separate players from each other, which is why there is fresh content, updates, and expansions for everyone every 3 months – for free.”
Additionally, they have released a quite large infographic that shows in great detail what players can expect in terms of scope at launch. According to Richardsson, this is a “cautious” estimate, where only things that seem to be “very certain” have been included. However, this is not a binding guarantee. Warning: Wall of Information!
Mein-MMO says: The plans for the future of Eternal Crusade sound almost too good to be true. It makes sense to stay on the “we’re doing great” track, but providing a Buy2Play game with free updates even years after the launch is a feat that only relatively few games manage on a large scale. For now, we are a bit skeptical – but so far Eternal Crusade has kept all its promises.
