If Warner Bros. loses the license to The Lord of the Rings next year, fans still have the Chinese MMORPG Eternal Crusade.
The company Ujoy announced the online game Eternal Crusade as a mobile game, and just the trailer leaves players astonished at hobbit holes and dwarven cities. Even though the textures look quite blurred – after all, it is a mobile game – one might think the scenes from the video come from The Lord of the Rings Online. Not to mention, the story of the game feels strangely familiar…
27 Rings to rule them
One day, a dwarf came into possession of a magical ring and was driven to madness by its power. The lust for power led him to desire to become the ruler of the world. This resulted in a war between the dwarves, men, and elves, known as the War of the Ring. You will be drawn into this conflict, in which even more magical rings play a role.
Your task is to search for 27 magical rings that belong to the elf, dwarf, and human races. Why exactly 27, no one knows. As “ring seekers,” you want to find all the jewelry and harness its power for yourselves. This story is spiced with Asian elements, including typical Asian characters. However, the developers also want to make the online game appealing to Western players. You will explore a vast, open game world and fight boss enemies in large dungeons.

Eternal Crusade is set to be released this November. A closed beta is planned for the end of October. The MMO will initially be available in Chinese and English. And who knows, maybe you will reach Mordor in Eternal Crusade before it is available in The Lord of the Rings Online…
