The MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) will be offline for server maintenance on the PC on August 23. The maintenance is expected to last until 2:00 PM. A new patch will address the issue with guild traders on Sunday, remove duplicated gold from the game, and reduce the number of crashes.
How long will the maintenance take? ESO is currently offline on PC. The maintenance of the European and North American mega servers for the PC in the MMORPG:
- began today, Friday, at 10 AM.
- is expected to last until around 2:00 PM.
Then you can play ESO on PC again.
Duplicated Gold circulating in ESO
Why is the maintenance unusual? It is unusual for ESO to perform server maintenance on a Friday – this is due to special circumstances: A bug during the guild trader reset on Sunday resulted in “duplicated gold” circulating. This gold has caused quite a stir in the ESO forums in recent days.
It is unclear how much gold was created “out of nowhere”:
- Players are talking about billions of gold
- the German community manager estimates a “three-digit million amount,” so the problem was not that serious
In any case, ESO wants to pull the gold out of circulation.
The German community manager of ESO stated: This interim patch was originally planned for Monday, but it has been brought forward.
The server maintenance is therefore unscheduled today.
Crashes and Guild Trader Bug
These are the main changes: The patch notes state that patch 5.1.7 includes several fixes for some crashes. Crashes had been more frequent since Monday with the last patch.
Zenimax will also address a problem with multi-bidding in the update, which caused players to repeatedly receive gold back when the game was under “heavy load.” This problem was the source of the “duplicated gold” that caused issues last week.
Additionally, there are some balance changes and fixes in the update.
ESO confiscates the gold generated by the bug
How is Zenimax handling the issue? All guilds that received gold through multi-bidding will have the extra gold removed from their guild banks.
If Zenimax needs to take more gold from the bank than is available, the bank will be reduced to 0 gold. If the guild still has no money in the bank, their bids on guild traders this week will be canceled and the outstanding gold will be taken from these bids.
Some guilds and individuals who heavily abused the bug and tried to move, spend, or launder the money will be treated separately. It is said that appropriate measures will be found.
