The Elder Scrolls Online has changed the name of the final DLC in 2020. Darkstorm is now called Markarth, and in a big live stream, the developers will soon present the content in more detail. But what exactly is the significance of the name Markarth and what could be included in the last DLC of the Skyrim year?
What is the significance of Markarth? Originally, the final DLC of “The Black Heart of Skyrim” was supposed to be called Darkstorm. However, since this was likely similar to the first DLC of the year called “Harrowstorm” – and the developers said they preferred the new name – it is now simply called Markarth.
When will we learn details about the DLC? The developers of ESO plan a major stream for the upcoming DLC on September 19, 2020. The concrete details will be shown there. Additionally, viewers with linked accounts on Twitch will receive a fun little glowbug as a pet.
But we already know a few things about Markarth.
What we already know about Markarth
What is Markarth? Skyrim fans likely already know, as Markarth is the westernmost city of Skyrim and is actually located in the “Reach,” a wild land inhabited by the barbaric Reachmen during the ESO time. Those who have played Skyrim know that they brutally advocate their people’s independence, portrayed in the game as the “Forsworn.” In ESO, the Reachmen are still a serious power and are in constant conflict with the Nords.
The city of Markarth itself was built upon the ruins of an ancient Dwemer city and even has a museum where one can admire the remnants of this vanished people. And of course, the entire region is riddled with tunnels and caves where dark vampires and unspeakable horrors can hide.
The theme of hidden dangers in dark caverns, which has characterized ESO throughout 2020, should come to a fitting conclusion here. Moreover, the region will have a little more Skyrim included in ESO.
What could be hidden in Markarth? Markarth will – like all previous final annual DLCs – feature a large adventure zone, which will be slightly smaller than the region in Greymoor. As with Greymoor, a significant portion of the map should also be laid out underground, since the black heart of Skyrim is, after all, underground.
In terms of content, you can expect the usual goodies. These will certainly include:

- New collectibles and furnishings
- More quests and publicly accessible delves
