The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) will receive a new chapter in 2018, as Zenimax calls the mini-add-ons that are released alongside 3 other DLCs each year. Recently, we went to Morrowind on the island of Vvardenfell to visit the Dark Elves. The chapter officially launched on June 5, 2018, for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. However, PC players could start early access from May 21.
This time it is their fair cousins’ turn, the arrogant High Elves from the Summerset Isles.
New Story, New Raid, New Skills, and New Crafting
After savvy dataminers found hints about the Summerset Islands and the Psijic Order deep within the game code months ago, it is now official:
- A new area: The setting of the chapter is – who would have thought – the Summerset Islands. That’s why the chapter is simply called “Summerset”, the English name of the islands. The new island will be even larger than the already impressively large Vvardenfell from Morrowind.
- Background story: The storyline involving the Daedric Triad continues and is said to last more than 30 hours. The story began back in 2015 with the Orsinium DLC. According to many fans, it is still the best DLC that has ever been released for ESO.
- The Psijic Order: The mysterious Psijic Order will actually appear, but the “Psijic Mystic” will not be a new class. Instead, you can join the Order and learn new magical skills over the course of the game. With these, you will be able to manipulate time. Among other things, you will be able to slow down time, enhance damage, speed yourself up, and regenerate resources faster through meditation. As an Ultimate, there will also be a time jump like Tracer, which sends you back 4 seconds.
- Jewelry crafting: Finally, there is the possibility to craft jewelry yourself and thus further optimize your hero. The resources for this can be obtained through mining. There are no styles for jewelry and 8 new traits that will allow you to increase your resources, resistances, speed, enchanting effects, and damage. - With Update 18, which will be released with Summerset, the game will be optimized and will run more smoothly.
- Two-handed weapons will be considered two set items with Update 18 for Summerset, optimizing your build.
- Every class will get adjustments, so that everyone can take on any role in their own way. Among other things, Dragon Knights will receive area healing.
- New PvE challenges: A new trial (raid) named “Cloudrest” for 12 players will be added. And with the Rift geysers, there will be additional content for groups.
Unfortunately, it seems that the long-awaited spell weaving did not make it into the new chapter. So you will have to wait longer until this feature eventually appears. But the time magic of the Psijic sounds exciting.

As with the last chapter Morrowind, you can either enter the new chapter Summerset as a veteran or a newcomer. Old hands will receive a quest that introduces them to the Daedric machinations in Summerset. Newcomers can create a hero in Summerset directly in a dedicated tutorial.
