In The Elder Scrolls Online has a new wave of cute mounts and pets in the Crown Store. One upcoming offer includes an adorable, little Ja-Khajiit pet that bears a striking resemblance to a notorious NPC in the game. MeinMMO has delved into the matter and uncovered the shocking truth behind this pet!
Which pet are we talking about? In preview of the upcoming offers in the ESO cash shop, alongside the legendary sheep mount and other items, there’s also an adorable, little pet named “Ja-Khajiit Raz.
“Ja-Khajiit” translates in the language of the cat people to something like “kitten” and refers either to the species variation of the “Suthay-raht” (the Khajiit species from the original Morrowind) or to small baby Khajiit. And that seems to be exactly what the little Khajiit from the shop is. It looks like a small lion with bright blue eyes and has a distinctive red mohawk hairstyle.
Wait a minute, there was an NPC that looks just like that: Razum-dar!
Razum-dar and His Affairs
Who is Razum-dar? The red mohawk and the name of the little creature “Ja-Khajiit Raz” are a clear clue to the origin of this pet. Anyone who has spent some time in ESO knows the legendary Razum-dar, the master spy of Queen Ayrenn from the Aldmeri Dominion. You meet him among other things as an important NPC in the Dominion story, in the Gold Coast DLC, in the story of Summerset, and in Elsweyr.
Raz, as he is often called, is somewhat of a James Bond with fur and in the game, he constantly talks about the numerous affairs he has had. Anyone who has played a certain quest in Elsweyr will experience firsthand the entanglements his active love life causes everywhere. And yes, Razum-dar has a bright red mohawk hairstyle.
That’s why the pet looks like Raz: Considering the appearance of the Ja-Khajiit, it seems reasonable to suspect that the little one is Razum-dar’s offspring. This also fits with the description text for the pet:
“Sweet young things are often given this as a keepsake,” says Razum-dar, Queen’s Eye, “but raising a kitten does not suit Raz’ romantic yet unsettled life full of schemes. Perhaps you could provide the adorable Ja-Khajiit with a good home, yes?”
Razum-dar, Queen’s Eye
One just needs to add one and one together to get the idea that “kittens as keepsakes” refers to unwanted offspring that Raz as a master spy cannot easily take along. Therefore, as players, you will raise his offspring and even pay for it! After all, the kitten is expected to cost around 1,200 crowns, about 10 euros.
The promotional image actually says it all: Baby Raz looks super sad while his father is sneakily disappearing behind a lamp post. Probably to quickly buy moon sugar…
Why is Raz’s child a cat? The two-legged Khajiit that you mostly see in ESO are just one of several subspecies of the cat folk. There are also variants that walk on four legs and resemble house cats or large tigers and lions. Baby Raz might therefore belong to the subspecies of Alfiq or Senche. And who knows, maybe he will appear later as an adult Khajiit in a future addon?
This is what players say: The story behind the pet has not gone unnoticed by ESO players. Back at the launch of Summerset, when the pet was first available in the Crown Store, there were amusing comments about it in the forum:
- SantieClaws: “The baby Raz, do you get a monthly kitten support payment in crowns for it?”
- TheMythicDawn: “Where is my Ja-Khajiit Pacrooti [the Khajiit who sells loot boxes]? He gives you an additional 0.000001% chance to pull a 5th item in loot boxes.”
- Jazdia: “I didn’t want to buy it at first, but he looked so sad and after 3 hours I finally gave in and bought him with my subscription crowns. He still looks sad, but he has cute animations.”
I want to provide little Raz with a home! Where can I get him? Currently, the little Raz has only been mentioned in the preview of the shop. Neither price nor release date has been given, but it was mentioned that the pet should be available to celebrate the Summerset release in 2020 and that it should be cheaper for ESO Plus subscribers.
In 2018, the pet was available again for a short time, from July 12 to July 16. It is quite possible that it could return around that time this year as well. Back then, the pet cost around 1,200 crowns, approximately 10 euros.
Will you get the little Raz or do you find the idea of an NPC simply pushing his offspring on you tasteless? Let us know in the comments. By the way, here is a popularity ranking of all playable races in The Elder Scrolls Online. The Khajiit are not really at the bottom.
