The Elder Scrolls Online introduces a new system with Update 30 that addresses one of the major criticisms of the game. Because really cool mounts and other stuff are often only available in loot boxes that cost a lot of money. But now you should be able to unlock these items for free by sacrificing time instead of money.
What is this new system? ESO has now received the update to Update 30. This offers you, among other things, a brand-new system called “Endeavours”. Essentially, these are daily and weekly challenges, similar to those found in battle royale shooters like Apex Legends or Fortnite.
You will need to complete tasks such as:
- Kill X enemies with class abilities
- Loot X chests
- Kill a player in Cyrodiil
The tasks come from all kinds of areas in the game, including PvE, crafting, PvP, and much more. Each day you can complete a certain number of such Endeavours. Additionally, there are weekly tasks.
For the Endeavours, in addition to gold and silver, you also receive Endeavour seals. You can exchange these for special items from the current crown crates season. Yes, this includes the unwanted dyes and buff food as well as the highly coveted apex mounts. Such mounts are extremely rare to find in loot boxes and one has to invest a lot of money on average to obtain such animals.
Grind pays off: Those who grind for weeks can acquire premium mounts
Here’s how the grind works: In the game, the extent of the grind quickly becomes apparent. The following amounts of seals are required for these items (via MMORPG.org.pl):
- Simple items, like potions: 360 seals
- Epic items, like cool emotes and pets: 2,000 seals
- Apex items, like the top mounts and pets: 8,000 seals
Since you can earn 60 seals per day, it would already mean grinding for 6 days for a simple potion. For an apex mount, the grind time would then be over 4 months.
Nevertheless, grinding with a clear goal is something pleasant for many MMORPG players and the Endeavours in ESO are indeed something that you can complete alongside your regular activities as a somewhat active player. So those who enjoy playing ESO now get even more from their playtime, and those who play little may be motivated to spend a bit more time in Tamriel every day.
Along with the new system of Endeavours, there will be more significant updates in ESO in 2021. You can find out what else is coming in our article about the upcoming DLCs and the Deadlands region.
