Recently, the official patch notes for the test server of The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind have been released. It describes some changes to the existing classes. Especially the Templar is getting a lot of adjustments, which annoys many players!
So far, the noble Templar, a healer class, has been THE healer that every raid group had to bring in The Elder Scrolls Online. The reason was, besides generally good healing performance, a buff called “Major Mending,” which provided 30 percent more healing. Templars could easily generate this buff through their skill “Sacred Ground.”
This is set to change with Morrowind, as the new Warden will receive this buff, while the Templar will get a lesser version.
The Elder Scrolls Online – “You are deliberately ruining the Templar!”
While the Warden enjoys his Major-Mending buff, Templar fans are in dismay! “You just want to nerf our class to death, so everyone plays your stupid new Warden!”, is the sentiment of many outraged Templar fans!
Youtuber Deltia has even symbolically buried his Warden in the garden! It all seems pointless now if the Warden can allegedly do everything better.
The outcry in the official forum has become so loud that even Community Manager Gina Bruno has intervened with an official statement.

According to her, the large adjustment spree, which affects not only the Templar but also the Dragonknight (his shield skill previously provided Major Mending, but it will now only grant this buff if he actually has the shield active) is part of a plan.
Major Mending made the Templar an ultra healer that every group would take. However, the ability was simply too strong, considering that the Templar only needed to stand in his healing circle.
ESO – Zenimax: “Templar will not become obsolete”
To present the Warden as an appealing alternative, Major Mending will be the better choice for him, while the Templar continues to use the lesser version “Minor Mending.” This only provides 8 instead of 30 percent bonus healing, but both effects can stack.
However, according to Zenimax, Templars are still not unnecessary. They still provide better single-target healing, and their ultimate healing circle has a radius of 28 instead of the 8 meters of the Warden. Area healing at medium distance is more the Warden’s thing.
Additionally, the patch notes for Morrowind are currently only “early patch notes” for the test server. Like everything there, it could still change significantly before the release of Morrowind on June 6.
