A change to the class of the Sorcerer had to be reversed by the developers of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online as it was not well received by the players.
The Sorcerer in ESO should experience a change to his shield, which, however, was not well received by the community. The intention behind the change to the class was quite understandable. However, the developers had to realize that the Sorcerer would have been significantly worse off, especially in PvP.
The Sorcerer became too weak in PvP
What change is in question? The shield spell of the Sorcerer was given a “Cast Time”. This duration for casting the spell was intended to make sure players do not invest all points into Magicka. It was planned to create a balance between survival and offensive capabilities. A Sorcerer should no longer be able to summon a powerful shield immediately.
What was the problem? Players complained about this change as Sorcerers had already been affected by a damage nerf from a previous update, and the additional cast time of the shield made the class nearly useless in PvP. The shields made no sense in PvP anymore.
Changes require sensitivity
Reversing a change was not so easy: Although the cast time has been removed since then, the developers found it very difficult. Because while the instantly available shields are useful in PvP, they are overpowering in PvE. Therefore, optimizations are now needed to find ways to slightly limit the Sorcerer’s abilities in PvE without making him too weak in PvP.
More is coming: The developers have also discussed adjustments to the other classes and systems to create better overall balancing.
- The stamina of Dragonknights needs to be adjusted
- The skills of the Warden need optimization
- Nightblades have been nerfed too much over time
- Additionally, an adjustment to the Champion Points system is necessary as the automatic balance between buffs and counter-buffs is not working correctly
- Furthermore, the speed of players should be reduced, as they are currently too hard to hit
- In general, the classes in the DPS sector need adjustments
How players are reacting: The discussion about the changes has been held between players and developers. Even though some things – like the changes to the Sorcerer – were tedious to negotiate, both parties are satisfied with what came out in the end. Now the changes just need to be integrated into the game.
