Today marks the release of the new DLC Harrowstorm for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), as well as Update 25. And with this, the online role-playing game significantly reduces its size for the sake of performance. But what does this really bring?
What is the purpose of the diet? The new version is almost 30 GB smaller than the old one. This not only saves space on the hard drive, but ESO is also supposed to run more smoothly and load faster.
ESO becomes slimmer
What is required for the new version? The Elder Scrolls Online needs to be completely re-downloaded, which is now possible. So, you will have to endure the download of the MMORPG and its installation again, which can take several hours. But it should be worth the effort, right?
How much space does the MMORPG take now? On PC, the game is reported to be around according to player reports approximately 66 GB in size after the reinstall. Before, it was over 90 GB.
What does the update bring now?
Has the performance improved? Some players have already reinstalled ESO and are discussing their experiences. They report that it indeed feels smoother now. For dungeon runs, there seem to be fewer lags.
However, there are currently also problems arising. Because there are some reports of significantly more crashes than before. In addition, the loading times between areas are said to take longer.
- Kamtschuk writes in the official forum: “I have noticed a significant FPS improvement. I run 3 monitors in surround at a resolution of 5760 x 1080 and in high-pop fights, I average over 50 FPS. The crashes are problematic.”
- Lintashi thinks: “Longer loading times after the update, not just at the first screen after the patch. Performance feels the same.”
- FierceSam writes: “Significantly more crashes in heavily populated areas. But this might be due to the fact that there is much more going on there.”
- Blind_Stargazer explains: “So far I love this game update. The game feels much smoother and responds faster plus I have more storage space left.”
It must be mentioned that this is the first day after a major update including a new DLC. That not everything runs smoothly should be clear. In the coming days, we will know more about how the update is received by the ESO players.
The developers are constantly working to quickly fix such issues. Therefore, the situation should improve quickly in the near future. After all, there are further performance optimizations planned.
Have you installed the new ESO update or reinstalled the MMORPG? What are your experiences?
