The Elder Scrolls Online offers many features for solo players to enjoy the MMORPG. Creative Director Rich Lambert told us from MeinMMO during a preview event and explained why especially Skyrim fans should keep an eye on the new expansion.
What makes ESO special? Unlike other MMORPGs, ESO has no level barriers preventing you from experiencing certain content. You can explore the entire world and the latest areas without having to grind beforehand.
Moreover, you can complete areas, stories, and quests easily on your own. Only for the 4-player dungeons will you need to rely on other players, where some are even completable solo.
A fixed guild or a friend circle in the game is not required. Perfect for solo players, our colleagues from GameStar note in a test.
What is changing with Greymoor? With the new expansion Greymoor, the antiquities feature is introduced. This is a new task that you can also complete as a solo player, and it requires much of your time investment.
Additionally, areas from the popular RPG Skyrim are coming back. Rich Lambert, Creative Director at Zenimax Online, told us at a preview event that a new tutorial has been created, allowing Skyrim players to start right in the new areas.
Play ESO for free: If you don’t want to buy an expansion or the base game right now, you are in luck. Starting April 1st, ESO will be free for a limited time. You can also play the prologue episode for the new addon Greymoor, which has been active since March 30th.
ESO offers many contents, especially for newcomers
What does the head of ESO say? In our interview regarding the new expansion Greymoor, Rich Lambert recommended every solo player to try out the MMORPG:
You can play ESO solo without any issues. You can play it as if it were Skyrim. You can experience all the story content alone. There are many places to explore and numerous achievements for solo players.
When you feel comfortable in the game, you can start interacting with other players. That’s when ESO really shines, especially when it comes to cooperation between players.

What does ESO offer? For those who want to explore the world of Tamriel alone, there are many different tasks that can keep you occupied for a long time:
- The base game already offers several dozen hours of stories and quests. If you purchase the Greymoor expansion now, you’ll get the base game and all previous expansions included. That already provides more than 100 hours of content.
- The world is huge and beautifully designed. There is plenty to discover that does not relate to quests or the main story.
- You can join one of the guilds and complete tasks for them.
- There are various crafting professions that you can master.
- Housing offers various decoration options. Here you can get creative.
For our author Jürgen Horn, ESO is therefore the perfect MMORPG for new parents:
What is this new feature in Greymoor? If you haven’t had enough to do so far, you can look forward to the antiquities system from Greymoor.
You will need to find excavation sites in mini-games and then dig them up in another game. The mechanics are inspired by games like Minesweeper and Battleship. We’ll introduce you to how it works later in the week.
As rewards, there are new, mythic equipment items, as well as new cosmetic items, furniture for housing, and even a mount skin.
Directly start in Skyrim
Why is ESO worth it for Skyrim fans? Skyrim is a single-player RPG set in a specific region of the world of Tamriel. ESO now returns exactly there, but 1000 years earlier.
The new tutorial ensures that you can dive straight into the old and familiar zones, as Lambert revealed to us:
When you purchase the Greymoor chapter, you can create a new character and immediately go to Skyrim to play the content. Immediately, you don’t have to level up, play any old content, and that is one of ESO’s great and special features.
The region and the associated areas, including the dark Blackreach, are meant to feel immediately familiar:
The main hub of the chapter will be located in “Solitude”. So the huge, gigantic, iconic city on the cliff with the blue palace. That will feel immediately familiar.
We have more places in the area that you know and love, like Morthal, Dragonbridge, Shadowgreen, all these areas are there to explore.

You will also encounter many familiar creatures, including the Falmer and the Chaurus. So, if you are a fan of the “Elder Scrolls” series, you should check out this MMORPG, even if you want to explore the world alone.
What else can you do in ESO? If you want to spend even more time with the game, you can optionally get various DLCs. These bring additional stories, quests, and rewards. We will tell you how to get the DLCs at the best price.
In addition, you have the option to live out your role-playing dreams as you wish. However, you should team up with other players.
To experience everything in ESO, you need to invest a significant amount of time. First players have already completed 99% of the content and needed over 5,000 hours of playtime for it.
