With the Blackwood expansion, the Blackwood will be introduced into the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S). Zenimax Online has now presented this area a bit closer.
What is the Blackwood? The area represents the border between Cyrodiil in the middle of the Tamriel continent and the Black Marsh in the southeast. Here, beautiful forests and meadows transition into a dark swamp landscape, making this place particularly exciting and interesting. Art Director CJ Grebb explains:
We were excited about the opportunity to explore the gentle hills and the deciduous forests of the Niben, an environment that will be familiar to those brave souls who have spent much time in Cyrodiil. However, due to the spatial distance from the War of Three Banners, niches of tranquility have formed, allowing nature lovers to enjoy long stretches of untouched (yet dangerous) forests.

How big is the area? You can expect a zone in the Blackwood expansion that is similar in size to the areas introduced with the Elsweyr and Summerset expansions in the MMORPG ESO.
You’ll expect around 30 hours of new content in the form of stories and quests. The missions will take you to the two cities of Leyawiin and Gideon, as well as six dungeons, two public dungeons, and a new trial for 12 players. You will face six bosses and also enter the Oblivion Gates. However, the developers want to talk about these world events at a later time.
You will explore ancient Argonian temples and Daedric dungeons. Numerous challenges and dangers await you there.
What new enemies await you? CJ Grubb reveals that the Deathjumpers await you in the swamps. They are giant frogs that bury themselves in the mud and then leap from their hiding place to grab their victims with their tongues and bite them to death with their sharp teeth.
In addition, wild dogs roam the swamps, and you will also encounter the reptilian Wamasu, who lay their eggs in the area.
What else is special about the Blackwood? As it is the border area between Cyrodiil and the Black Marsh, you can expect a unique culture mainly consisting of Imperials and Argonians. Since Elsweyr is not far away, many Khajiit also roam the Blackwood. In the cities, the races have learned to live peacefully together, even though there is war in Cyrodiil, which you experience in PvP. Zone Lead Jason Barnes explains:
The Imperials in Blackwood have come to terms with their separation from the main part of the Empire and want to lead a completely normal life – even if the odds may seem bleak for them. The Argonians here are more adventurous than their cousins in their homeland, and the city of Gideon serves somewhat as a border, allowing Argonians from the Black Marsh to leave the marshes and enter safer territory.
However, outside the cities, a different picture emerges. Because there are tensions between the races, and you arrive in the Blackwood at a time when the powder keg is about to explode. This will make it very exciting to explore the Blackwood when the Blackwood addon is released on June 1 for PC and on June 8 for the consoles PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
