The responsible parties behind The Elder Scrolls Online recently introduced one of the two new companions in the upcoming add-on Necrom. The developer Zenimax Online Studios is now revealing the characteristics and what sets this companion apart.
Who is the new companion? The new companion embodies the new class of an Arcanist, which is being introduced with the add-on Necrom to the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. According to the developer Zenimax Online Studios this is a playable class that has been in development for 2 years.
The companion is named Azandar al-Cybiades. While his personality may overshadow his talents, he is quite skilled at using the abilities of an Arcanist.
He is referred to as an exceptional Arcanist
who is knowledgeable in the use of magic, arcane studies, and – it is rumored – cooking.

What is known about the lore of Azandar al-Cybiades? According to a writing from Elydrina Nathriin, the head of Azandar al-Cybiades and a follower of the Shad Astula Academy, the character of Azandar al-Cybiades is discussed (via elderscrollsonline.com). This details the companion’s following characteristics:
- It is a letter to a cousin who plans to collaborate with an extraordinary Arcanist named Azandar al-Cybiades, who researches transliminal theories about daedric realms.
- The cousin is warned about Azandar’s character and some of his negative traits: arrogant, complex, irresponsible, and unable to take criticism.
- An anecdote is told about Azandar’s unethical research in a ruin in Skywatch, where he sabotaged the work of Telenger the Artist and delved into a mysterious puzzle.
- The sender ultimately advises the cousin to stay away from Azandar.
What distinguishes the Arcanist? The Arcanist can draw on three different skill lines in detail. These are:
- Herald of the Folio: This is a damage-oriented skill line that uses arcane energies to attack enemy targets and generate Crux.
- Curative Rune Forms: This represents the healing-oriented skill line. As the name suggests, runes are used for healing, supporting allies, and creating portals.
- Apocryphal Soldier: This skill line is aimed at tanks. It allows you to draw the group’s aggro onto yourself and improve defenses.
When is the new add-on Necrom coming out? The new add-on is set to launch on June 5 for PC and Mac. The release date for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles is currently scheduled for June 20 (via Steam).
Once again, additional rewards are available with different versions of the game. If you purchase the Deluxe Collection: Necrom in advance, you will receive various items, such as a mount.
