If you create a new character in the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online, you will start at level 1 in each skill line. In the crafting skill lines, you will need to create and deconstruct items. However, the provisioning is quickly accomplished with a little trick and some preparation. We will show you how to do this here.
What is the provisioning profession? The provisioning profession involves creating drinks and food. These have special effects, which usually influence your maximum stats or regeneration. There are also some exceptions that have additional effects.
For created foods or drinks, it is generally referred to as buff food.
This is how you prepare to level the provisioning
What do you need for that? First, you need a few prerequisites. But don’t worry, it’s just small things. You will need some skill points, a few recipes for provisioning, or a bit of cash to buy some recipes.
Here’s an overview of the things you need:
- min. 5 skill points
- optional: 6 additional skill points
- recipes of various levels
- the appropriate materials
- optional: correct champion points
Allocate your champion points correctly
If you have already reached (generally) level 50 with a character, you will unlock the champion point system. In the green champion tree “Inspiration,” you can allocate up to 45 points to the “Inspiration” skill. This increases your inspiration gain during crafting by 10% per level.
Where do I get skill points?
You can obtain skill points through various quests, by leveling up in the alliance rank (PvP), or by collecting 3 sky shards per skill point.
Here you will find out where the sky shards in Blackwood are located and where to find the sky shards in Deadlands.
Where do I get the recipes?
You can always acquire recipes for your level from the cook or brewer. On the map, you can identify them by the icon with the jug. The cook is usually located next to a cooking station, and the brewer is often found in a tavern. In the city of Leyawiin in Blackwood, the cook is located right next to the cooking station.
If you do not have the Blackwood expansion, you might try, for example, in Gramfeste (Deshaan) in the tavern “Flaming Nix.” The cook and cooking station are located in the basement.
You can acquire the recipes suitable for your level through “Recipe Improvement.” This is the first passive skill in your provisioning skills.
The quality of the recipes does not matter.
Where do I get the right materials?
You can find the appropriate materials either:
- in chests and bags
- buy in the guild store
- buy from the merchant (very expensive)
If you are a newcomer to ESO and don’t have many materials yet, just nicely ask in your guild or generally in the community. Most players are very helpful.
You can also perfectly combine gathering ingredients with leveling the “Stealth” skill line by stealing ingredients that are lying out in open market stalls and selling them to the vendor in the hideout. This will cost you significantly less gold than buying ingredients from the merchant.
This is how you level up your provisioning skill to level 50
Once you have completed all preparations, head to a cooking station. You can find one, for example, in Leyawiin. The principle works as follows: You always create a food or drink with the highest possible level. And you keep doing this until you can invest another skill point in the first passive ability of provisioning.
You can see your progress in levels in the top left when creating a buff food.
Here’s an overview of the levels at which you can invest skill points:
- Recipe Improvement (2/6): Level 20
- Recipe Improvement (3/6): Level 30
- Recipe Improvement (4/6): Level 40
- Recipe Improvement (5/6): Level 50
- Recipe Improvement (6/6): Level 50
If you also want to earn a bit of gold on the side, it’s worth investing further skill points in the passive skills “Culinary Arts” and “Brewing.” These skills increase the amount of buff food produced per process. So later you can sell more items to the vendor.
Here’s an overview of the levels at which you can invest skill points in “Culinary Arts”:
- Culinary Arts (1/3): Level 7
- Culinary Arts (2/3): Level 23
- Culinary Arts (3/3): Level 33
Here’s an overview of the levels at which you can invest skill points in “Brewing”:
- Brewing (1/3): Level 9
- Brewing (2/3): Level 25
- Brewing (3/3): Level 36
