Coldharbour is an area in The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), located in the realm of the Forgotten. It is a good place to grind new characters. However, the map is not easily accessible. We at MeinMMO will tell you how to get to Coldharbour.
How do I get to Coldharbour? The area Coldharbour is part of the main story of ESO. You will automatically end up there when following the story. However, this takes some time and especially some levels, as we actually want to level up in Coldharbour.
Therefore, there is an alternative way to get to Coldharbour:
You can simply ask another player if they can travel to Coldharbour for you. Then you can follow them using the group or contact tool. This works with every area, except for Cyrodiil.
This means you can theoretically play in Coldharbour with a character that has just come out of the tutorial.
I was in Coldharbour, but I can’t find the way shrine? This is probably because you haven’t zoomed out far enough on the map. Coldharbour is a plane in the realm of the Forgotten and thus an area outside of Nirn. Like Artaeum and the Clockwork City, this area lies outside of Tamriel.
If you’ve zoomed out far enough, you’ll see the island on the left side of the map:
Also, the addon “BeamMeUp” is helpful in this context, as it makes traveling in areas easier and prevents this problem of finding the way shrine (via ESOUI).
Why should one travel to Coldharbour? In Coldharbour, there are two interesting grind spots to quickly level new characters:
- The first place is called “The Abhorrent Laboratory” and is located in the south of Coldharbour
- The second place is the “Court of Contempt”, which is located in the east
Although Coldharbour was originally considered an endgame area, due to ESO’s special scaling technique, you can have fun there even at level 2. MeinMMO author Larissa Then tried out the grind spots herself and had fun doing it:

Additionally, you can secure 16 sky shards in Coldharbour, which grant you skill points. The Hollow City also offers the luxury merchant, from whom you can purchase special housing items every week.
