The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is receiving the add-on Homestead today, on February 6th. It includes the long-awaited housing feature for TESO.
Finally, the day has come! Today, February 6th, at 10 AM, Tamriel will go quiet for server maintenance, temporarily resting to awaken with new features after the maintenance work. Of course, we are talking about housing!
Fans of ESO have been requesting the introduction of player houses since the release in 2014. Rumors and vague announcements about housing have circulated repeatedly. Towards the end of 2016, the housing add-on Homestead was finally confirmed.
My Armor, My Mount, My House!
With Homestead, The Elder Scrolls Online finally receives a feature that has long been present in the offline Elder Scrolls titles like Skyrim or Oblivion. In ESO, you have a much larger selection with 39 different houses than in other ES games. Additionally, you can easily set up the shacks using an easy-to-use editor.
You unpack an item from the furnishing browser, rotate and place it freely in the desired position in the room. It does not matter if the object is resting on something, embedded in other objects, or even floating freely in space. If someone wants to create a crazy mage’s lair where all the furniture floats in the air, they can certainly do so. Creative players can even build their own houses inside the pre-fabricated buildings using individual stones and beams.
Help, Where is My House! – The First Steps in Housing in The Elder Scrolls Online
“That all sounds great, but where will I find the houses once they are online?” Quite simply!
Once the maintenance work in ESO ends this afternoon, you can immediately rent a small room in an inn from the NPC “Canthion the Housing Broker” and get your first experience with house ownership. Canthion can be found – depending on your alliance – in Vulkhel Guard, Daggerfall, or Davon’s Watch.
If you want more houses, you can either buy them with real money via the Crown Store or look for the shacks on the map and acquire them directly with in-game currency. However, note that for some buildings you must first complete specific quests in order to buy them with gold. This doesn’t apply to the Crown Store, where you can also acquire the houses fully furnished and view them in peace.

TESO Housing: When Does It Finally Start?
We asked ZeniMax and learned that the maintenance work should end today – barring any issues – between 2 PM and 5 PM. After that, all PC players of ESO can freely play the housing add-on Homestead and build and furnish houses.
Console gamers, on the other hand, will have to wait a bit longer. For PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Homestead – as always – will arrive about two weeks later on February 21st.
