At The Elder Scrolls Online , there is no tolerance for cheaters. Today, on Pentecost Monday, June 6th, the new expansion High Isles launches – but over 400 players of the MMORPG will not be able to start the new chapter with their usual accounts. Because ESO is taking major actions a few days before release and banning over 400 accounts due to cheating. Currently, the servers for ESO are down anyway.
What is happening in ESO today?
- Once a year, in summer, there is a major expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online, the new “chapter”.
- Today, in the year 2022, it is that time again: On PC/Mac, High Isles is already launching – players on PlayStation and Xbox will have to wait two more weeks. They will start the new chapter on June 21st.
- Currently, the mega servers for PC in Europe and North America are down. A launch of High Isles is expected at 2 PM, then the download can start and it begins. You can check the ESO Server Status to see when the servers will go online again.
ESO bans over 400 people for cheating before the launch of High Isles
Who will get nothing out of this today? On June 3rd, The Elder Scrolls Online published a post. Community Manager Jessica Folsom announced (via forum):
Recently, we identified and banned over 400 accounts for violating our terms of service regarding “cheating”. Specifically in the area: Manipulation of the game client unintentionally through the use of third-party cheat programs.
We want to remind everyone that the manipulation of the game client is strictly prohibited. Likewise, the use of unapproved third-party apps, programs, scripts, and other things that modify mechanics that are in the game and alter gameplay.
Folsom also mentions that all players who were banned received a message regarding this. They also have the opportunity to contest the ban or contact the developers.
How the players are reacting: The wave of bans has sparked a discussion in the forum (via forums.elderscrolls) about whether the popular addon “Reshade” is also affected. Here, players are hoping for a clear statement from the developers: However, that is still pending.
As the post is formulated, it suggests that the cheaters are using bots, which visibly plague many MMORPGs.
