While Greymoor, the latest expansion for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online, was released on PC in May, players on PS4 and Xbox One had to wait longer. In the meantime, they can also start playing. We tell you what you need to know about the release and the download size.
Update June 10 1:30 PM: ESO was released almost on time on the two consoles and can now be played by you. There don’t seem to be any major issues at this time. We have updated the article from June 9 accordingly.
The new expansion for ESO was released for PS4 and Xbox One on Wednesday, June 10.
Originally, the release was planned for the day before, June 9. But it was postponed due to the funeral of George Floyd.
The servers went online again almost as planned at 11:00 AM and at least at first glance, there were no so many issues as with the PC release.
There was a surprise regarding the size of the update. On PS4, you need to download 58 gigabytes, on Xbox One it is 56 GB.
This size surprised many users, as just the update in February made ESO leaner.
The new expansion has to be purchased once. Unlike DLCs, it is not included in ESO+.
On PS4, you cannot pre-order Greymoor yet. The expansion can only be purchased on release on June 10.
In the Xbox Store, you pay 39.99 euros for the digital upgrade. However, this requires a purchased version of ESO. Greymoor combined with all previous expansions costs 59.99 euros. The digital collector’s editions cost 10 euros more each.
Whoever ordered the Greymoor expansion before release receives various bonuses, including a new costume, a companion, a treasure map for Western Skyrim, and a War Horse of the Festival Breaker.
To receive the pre-order bonuses on PS4, it is sufficient to purchase Greymoor between June 10 and June 22.

What does Greymoor offer? With the new expansion come areas from Western Skyrim and the Blackreach into play. The area of the expansion is supposed to be the largest so far.
In addition, you can expect:
- A dark main story and many creepy side quests, containing a total of 30 hours of new storytelling.
- The Storms of Grief / Hawworstorms – A group event in the open world.
- The new antiquity system.
- The new mythical equipment.
- Kynes Aegis, a trial for 12 players.
- The overhaul of vampires.
- New dungeons and open caves.

Is it worth it? Anyone who has enjoyed playing The Elder Scrolls Online so far will hardly be able to pass on the new expansion. But Greymoor also appeals to another target group: fans of Skyrim.
The expansion strongly emphasizes the nostalgia factor and brings back familiar places like Solitude or the Blackreach. Furthermore, the MMORPG can be played very well alone, except for some dungeons and trials for 12 players. The mass of players streaming into the new areas is said to be one of the reasons why there were release issues.
MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn has already played Greymoor and thoroughly enjoyed his time. He has more fun with the Storms of Grief than fighting dragons in Elsweyr.
