The Elder Scrolls Online will do some things differently in 2023. Instead of the usual 4 content updates, there will only be three this time. However, the focus will be more on smaller adjustments and a major highlight: the new class Arcanist. We at MeinMMO will tell you everything you need to know about the expansion Necrom and the contents for 2023.
What does ESO bring in 2023?
- The year starts with the DLC Scribes of Fate, which brings two new dungeons with a normal and a veteran mode. With the update, the saga “Shadows over Morrowind” will begin, which will run throughout the year. Scribes of Fate will be released on March 13 for PC and on March 28 for Xbox and PlayStation.
- On June 5, the expansion Necrom will be released for PC, offering 30 hours of new story content, two new areas, and the previously announced new class Arcanist, which will be available on June 20 for PlayStation and Xbox.
- In the third quarter, there will be an update focusing on player convenience and bug fixes.
- The fourth quarter will bring an unknown DLC that is supposed to introduce a completely new system. The system will be related to endless dungeons.

In Necrom, you work with a Daedric Prince
What is the expansion about? Necrom revolves around the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora. Together with him, players will investigate a mysterious threat. Deep in the heart of the city of the dead, you must uncover lost knowledge and shift between realities to expose a conspiracy powerful enough to threaten both Nirn and the realm of oblivion.
Along the way, you will encounter many old acquaintances, including the Morag Tong assassin Naryu. But the new and powerful Dark Elf Leramil the Wise will also play a role. In addition to the main story, there will once again be numerous side quests. A total of 30 hours of story content are planned.
Gameplay will occur in two different areas:
- The Telvanni Peninsula on the east coast of Morrowind.
- The Apocrypha, an area in the realm of oblivion.
Both will be released together with the expansion named after the capital of the peninsula – Necrom – which could already be accessed in The Elder Scrolls: Arena. The areas will bring new vaults, public dungeons, and world bosses.

What does the expansion contain besides story and areas?
- There are two new companions, as has been the case since Blackwood. The Rothwardon Arcanist Azandar al-Cybiades and the Argonian guardian Torn-as-the-Night.
- There will be 10 new item sets, new antiquities, new collectibles, and new achievements and titles in the game.
- The card game “Tales of Glory” is getting a new card set.
- A new raid for 12 players will be released again.
The main highlight of Necrom is, however, the new class.
The Arcanist relies on a brand new mechanic and can take on any role
What kind of class is it? The Arcanist is the seventh class in ESO and relies on powerful abilities from the realm of oblivion. It utilizes offensive, defensive, and restorative magic.
The uniqueness of the class is the new mechanic Crux, a kind of combo system. Crux is generated when you use certain abilities of the Arcanist. Other abilities, in turn, consume Crux. The more Crux you collect before consuming it, the more powerful the ability becomes.
The class offers three skill lines:
- Sealer of the Tome focuses on damage.
- Curative Rune Forms provide abilities to shield, heal, or transport yourself or allies with a portal.
- Apocryphal Soldier is the tank line. Here, you can draw aggro to yourself and strengthen your defenses.
This makes the new class very flexible. However, you will need the new expansion to play the Arcanist.

Can the expansion be preordered already? Yes, with the end of the announcement livestream, preorders have started:
- The standard upgrade costs 39.99 euros. It includes only the latest expansion.
- The Necrom Collection costs 59.99 euros and includes all previous expansions.
- Additionally, there is a deluxe version for 49.99 euros or 79.99 euros with all previous expansions.
