The Elder Scrolls Online has brought the new expansion Blackwood to the test server. With the update, many new content pieces were released, including the story involving Mehrunes Dagon and the companions. However, players are more excited about a small detail regarding an NPC that will no longer shout as often.
What’s going on? In the patch notes for the release of Blackwood on the test server, players found a small but interesting detail. It states:
Can you believe it? Dragons! In your own homeland! What are you going to do? Well, we’re going to make this scene play less often, is what we’re going to do.
From the patch notes (via ESO Forum)
The developers are referring to NPCs that repeat the phrase “Can you believe it? Dragons! In your own homeland! What are you going to do?” over and over again. This phrase has become a meme in the ESO community.
There are players who complained back in 2019 about hearing the phrase “at least 2,000 times” (via ESO Forum). Now, with Blackwood, the frequency at which the phrase is played has apparently been significantly reduced. This has been well received.
We have embedded a video from YouTuber Bacon_ containing the relevant dialogue:
Small change with a big impact
How is the adjustment received? On the ESO subreddit, a thread on this topic is currently ranked #1 and has received over 2,600 upvotes (via reddit). In it, over 100 players celebrate this adjustment:
- Siligurl20 is very pleased with the change: “Oh my God, finally, thank God.”
- ormondhsacker writes: “Finally, the game will be playable again, as I see it.”
- Destindil is happy but also has another wish: “I’m so glad they fixed this after people complained for two years. It looks like the many contributions paid off! Now they just need to fix the rest of the NPCs, and everything will be right in the world.”
Destindil is not alone with this wish. The thread mentions at least 6 other NPCs whose dialogues are slowly getting on players’ nerves, including the NPC Stuga, who is located in Daggerfall.
However, it is currently unknown if or when these will be adjusted.
What’s new in ESO: The change in the dialogue came along with the new expansion Blackwood on the test server. Players can now explore the new areas, experience the story surrounding Mehrunes Dagon, and try out the companions we have already extensively tested:
Keep in mind that this is a test server, so various bugs may occur or some content may not be playable at all.
In the coming days, we will try out the story ourselves on MeinMMO and summarize the reactions to Blackwood. Anyone who wants to inform themselves extensively about the expansion beforehand can find all the information in this overview:
