In November, Markarth will be released as the final DLC from the current story “The Dark Heart of Skyrim” for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One). But what is Markarth actually?
What is Markarth? Markarth is the name of the 4th DLC of the story “The Dark Heart of Skyrim,” which will be released on November 2 for PC, Stadia, and Mac, and on November 10 for PS4 and Xbox One.
Markarth is also an area in the province of Skyrim of the MMORPG ESO. It is a city located in an ancient region known as the Reach. The new adventures that conclude the current story of ESO will take you there.
A Dwarven Fortress as the Last Bastion Against Vampires
What is special about the city? Markarth is actually an ancient fortress of the Dwemer, the lost race commonly known as Dwarves (even though they were actually Elves). The Reachfolk have occupied and expanded this abandoned fortress.
The Reachfolk are a very primitive, hardened people who live in the stony regions of the Reach. They do not take kindly to the Dwemer reinforcing the stone walls of Markarth with metal plates and are gradually remodeling the city.
Markarth is considered a powerful fortress, which is why it is seen in the new DLC as the last bastion against the onslaught of the Grey Host. Here, the battle against the Vampire Army will be decided.
What about the Reach and its people? The Reach is a harsh, stony land located in the far west of Skyrim. The rugged landscape aims to provide players with a new experience, as it is distinctly different from the rest of Skyrim.
However, you will not only explore above-ground areas there but also the mysterious Arkthzand Cavern. It is part of the gigantic Blackreach, the cave that extends beneath Skyrim.
In the cavern, you will encounter the Dyanstids, dangerous creatures whose appearance and movements differ from those of other foes. They present a new enemy unlike any you have faced before.
The Reach is also a place of many conflicts. The area is surrounded by Skyrim and the adjacent regions of High Rock and Hammerfell. The frequent battles have made the Reachfolk relentless and fierce warriors. However, during the time of ESO, the land enjoys a fairly peaceful and stable phase – until the Grey Host appears.
Throughout the storyline, you will learn more about the Reachfolk and their land, as well as meet interesting characters.
We have spent years in ESO fighting against hostile clans from the Reach, but none of these factions reflected the image of the whole people, especially not that of the vastly different clans at the core of the Reach.
Andrew Young, Zone Lead for Markarth
We are excited for you to meet new characters, such as Ard Caddach, the self-proclaimed king of the Reach, or the wild witch Arana. Both will prove to you that there is more to the Reachfolk than what Imperial scholars would have you believe.
How the story surrounding “The Dark Heart of Skyrim” concludes in the MMORPG ESO and what Markarth has to offer will be experienced in November.
