The Elder Scrolls Online offers a plethora of mounts, and often it’s difficult to choose which creature to ride. However, if you have one of these 5 cool mounts, the choice will be somewhat limited. These mounts from our MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn will definitely make an impression.
What types of mounts are there in ESO? By now, ESO has well over 100 different mounts, and they mainly fall into these categories:
- Senche: These are sleek big cats and sometimes variants of the Khajiit.
- Wolves: All sorts of rideable dire wolves can be found here.
- Horses: The good old horses are plentiful.
- Camels: For those who enjoy desert adventures, the camel is the way to go.
- Bears: Massive bears are also legitimate mounts in ESO.
- Guars: These strange lizard creatures look like a mix between frogs and fish and make good mounts.
Additionally, there are various strange creatures like mechanical spiders, Indriks, and Kagouti lizards.
These mounts are always a good idea
Many mounts in ESO are hard to obtain and are hidden behind absurdly low RNG probabilities in Crown crates or are not available anymore because the season of the Crown crates they once belonged to has ended.
Therefore, I limited my list of the 5 most impressive mounts to those that you can either acquire in the game or purchase at certain times in the Crown Store.
The Yorgrim Goat
What is it? This mount presents a gigantic ram. A ram of colossal size that can easily carry even a hulking Nord through the mountainous wilderness of Skyrim. The mount features a truly unique design and is by no means a simple reskin of the known mounts in the game.
Thus, it was extremely popular even at the announcement of its upcoming introduction in the shop and the players of ESO were really excited about the goat!
Where can you get this creature? The Yorgrim Goat has been available in the ESO Shop since July 2020 and costs 3,000 Crowns. That is about 20 Euros. At the time of this article (August 14, 2020), the goat is regularly available.
The Dwarven Spider
What is it? This mount depicts a mechanical spider from the workshops of the forgotten people known as the Dwarves. The Dwarves were masters of steampunk mechanics, and this mount looks like something right out of their inventions.
You get a bizarre crawling creature with gears and measuring implements that you can ride on. But it becomes really cool when you take off riding. The mechanical legs whirl at a decent pace, while the spider carries you rapidly through the area. However, those who are afraid of crawling creatures should probably steer clear of the spider, as the animation can be disturbing.
Where can you get this mount? The Dwarven Spider is sometimes available in the Crown Store and costs 3,000 Crowns. That’s about 20 Euros.
The Indrik
What is it? This mount is something quite special, as it is also a completely new creature, not just a version of a horse with horns. The Indrik is a kind of glowing stag with a unicorn and is inspired by the eponymous mythical creature from Slavic mythology.
Indriks come in various versions, and you can determine this yourself by feeding the creature certain berries.
Where can you get this mount? The Indrik can be obtained without real money costs. To acquire it, you need to complete a complex quest chain. First, you must collect feathers to summon the base form of the creature. Then you need to collect berries via events and feed them to the Indrik. Once all has been accomplished, you will receive a specific version of the mount.
A guide to the Indrik can be found here. The Indrik event, in which you can obtain the feathers and berries, returns regularly, so keep an eye out.
The Senche-rath
What is it? Countless riding cats in ESO fall under the umbrella term “Senche,” but they are usually variants of leopards, lions, or tigers. This feline creature is something different, as it is an extremely large, muscular version of a four-legged Khajiit subspecies.
Senche-rath are particularly large and muscular. These “battle cats” are the secret weapon of the feared Khajiit cavalry, as the humanoid cat beings ride these monstrous beasts into battle. If you want to emulate them, then saddle up and gallop with such a monstrosity across the lands.
Where can you get this beast? Senche-rath mounts are currently only available through the Collector’s Edition of the ESO expansion Elsweyr. However, since this expansion is regularly available in the shop around the anniversary of its release, you can still get the upgrade in time. Additionally, there was once a yellow version of the Senche-rath in the shop, which you could exchange for 600 gemstones from loot boxes.
The Hobby Horses
What is it? These “mounts” aren’t really mounts; they are just hobby horses. You read that right, your hero seriously mounts one of these things, which are a broomstick with a carved head of a horse, a guar, or a dragon attached to the end.
With this, your character “gallops” around, and if you want to run fast, they just put the thing on their shoulder and take off. So, for those who want to cheer up their teammates after the umpteenth fail in the raid or simply don’t take the game seriously, this “mount” is the first choice.
Where can you get this thing? The hobby horses were available for 900 crowns during the Fool’s Festival. So keep your eyes peeled when it comes around again in spring.
What you should keep an eye on: For all fans of mounts, the developers at ZeniMax have something very special in store soon. With the upcoming DLC Stonethorn, there will not only be vampire fortresses and dark laboratories. Finally, there will also be the first two-seater mount, a version of the Dwarven spider where you and a friend can both sit together.
