Unlike what the name of the game suggests, Escape from Tarkov is not over when you have escaped.
In the MMO-FPS Escape from Tarkov, the storyline revolves around how to escape from the Russian city of Tarkov. The city is fictional and, according to the game, located in the north of Russia. As a player, you are supposed to escape the city together with your friends.
Once you have accomplished that, the game is not over yet. In an interview, the developers have announced that there is more content in the game.
“There will always be something to do”
Nikita Buyanov, the lead game designer of Escape from Tarkov, stated in an interview that there is still much to discover after fleeing Tarkov.
It may sound paradoxical, but nowadays no good game ends with an endgame. There is always something to do, such as improving skills, playing side quests, or exploring hidden locations. After fleeing Tarkov, players can return to explore and for quests. There will also be DLCs.
It won’t be easy to escape from Tarkov. You will have to complete quests or trade with other players to obtain important items. Improving your skills is essential to defeat difficult enemies and survive raids. A particular challenge is the hardcore nature of the game. If you die, you lose your loot. However, there are ways to reclaim that loot – Buyanov explains how:
If the character had a specific item, such as an emergency beacon or a flare, at the time of death, those items can be automatically activated upon death. This allows teammates to be brought onto the server (in limited numbers), or you can try to recover your lost items.
The second option is insurance. However, not in the form of money, as that could lead to “insurance fraud”, but in the form of the items themselves. To get the items back after death, they must not have been looted from your body yet. For example, if your character died in a hard-to-reach place or just before the raid ended, there is a chance you will recover your items.
